Army All-American Bowl 2014: 10 Recruits with Best NFL Skill Sets

Edwin WeathersbyDec 29, 2013

The 2014 U.S. Army All-American Bowl will take place at Noon CT in Texas this Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. The East and West both have rosters packed full of talent, so this will be fun to watch.

Many current NFL players played in this game as high school seniors, so history leads one to believe several future professional football stars will be playing in the 2014 edition. Reaching the NFL is the goal for every recruit in the country, but not many make it.

However, a couple players who will be showcasing their talent this weekend appear to have the skill set and potential to become a pro. Keep an eye on the following recruits.

Player evaluations are based on review of tape at Scout.comRivals and 247Sports.

Dante Booker, OLB

1 of 11

A 4-star prospect, Dante Booker has a chance to develop into a complete outside linebacker. He can play on both sides of the flanks on the second level due to his well-rounded skill set.

Booker, who is committed to Ohio State, is 6'3" and 212 pounds. He has good vision to quickly locate the ball at the snap, plus he has the short-area quickness to explode into alleys to fill the lane versus running plays.

Booker also has the athleticism and speed to drop into coverage. He can work in space to close on passes, but he also has the ability to smother tight ends and running backs in man coverage. His career shouldn't end in Columbus.

Brian Wallace, OT

2 of 11

Brian Wallace has not gotten a great amount of attention from various publications, but he's a good football player. In fact, the 4-star offensive lineman has the skills to become an elite left tackle.

At 6'6" and 305 pounds, the Missouri native displays quick feet and impressive agility to dance with rushers in space. Wallace has adequate strength to move defenders off their marks as a run-blocker, plus he can execute several types of blocks.

Alabama and Arkansas are his leaders, says 247Sports

Jalen Hurd, RB/ATH

3 of 11

Although he likely will play running back at Tennessee, 4-star athlete Jalen Hurd has the versatility NFL teams covet. At 6'3" and 230 pounds, Hurd has the speed and size to do many different things on the field.

If playing running back doesn't work out for him, he can easily move to tight end or perhaps receiver. Hurd has impressive hands and ball skills, plus he has a noticeable burst with the ball when he sees daylight.

Again, running back is the first option for Hurd. However, he could find himself in the NFL playing the same type of role Orson Charles plays for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Damien Mama, OL

4 of 11

Sure, more and more NFL teams are throwing the ball practically every down. However, running the football will always be the foundation of the league. Having complete offensive linemen to open holes and protect the quarterback is key.

Damien Mama, a 5-star offensive lineman from California, has the makings of an excellent guard. At 6'4" and 370 pounds, Mama is a deceptive athlete who displays shocking agility and quickness in short-areas. He's also powerful at the point of attack, which allows him to be dominant as a run-blocker.

He may not be a great fit for a spread offense, but Mama should be great in a pro-style attack.

Frank Iheanacho, WR

5 of 11

Frank Iheanacho is a 4-star receiver who is rapidly rising up boards. The Texan is a big receiver who is 6'7" and 220 pounds, plus he possesses solid quickness in his releases.

Iheanacho has a raw skill set, but he has the potential to become a similar receiver to Brandon Marshall of the Chicago Bears. He's got good strength to combat jams, plus he displays above-average speed to make several big plays.

A former basketball player, look for Iheanacho to blossom in college.

Dwight Williams, OLB

6 of 11

Hailing from Los Angeles, Dwight Williams looks like Lavonte David on tape. Like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' linebacker, Williams is an undersized defender who gets by on instincts, speed and athleticism.

The 4-star prospect is only 6'1" and 205 pounds, but he can play on all three downs. Williams gets a jump on plays by playing with a natural feel, plus he's outstanding in coverage. With his range and quickness, he will be able stay on the field.

UCLA and Oklahoma are his top schools, per 247Sports

David Sharpe, OT

7 of 11

Left tackles are always in high demand, and 4-star offensive lineman David Sharpe has the potential to be a terrific one. Aside from gaining more experience through reps, he needs to refine his technique.

However, the future Florida Gator has major upside. Sharpe, who is 6'6" and 318 pounds, has natural and amazing athleticism for a big man. He has quick feet, plus the agility to easily shadow rushers in space.

Sharpe can hit moving targets in the running game, where he also has the ability to reach linebackers on the second level. He's similar to current Alabama left tackle Cyrus Kouandjio.

Clifton Garrett, LB

8 of 11

Clifton Garrett is a 5-star linebacker who is committed to LSU. From Illinois, the talented defender has a good work ethic and commitment to his craft.

Garrett, who is 6'2" and nearly 230 pounds, has the ability to play several different linebacker positions. He's at his best when he can attack the line of scrimmage, but he's shown improvement in coverage.

Garrett's toughness, instincts, vision, short-area quickness and strength will get him noticed by the right people.

Elijah Hood, RB

9 of 11

Bell-cow running backs are an endangered species, but 4-star recruit Elijah Hood is keeping hope alive. He's a tremendous talent who has the skills to put a team's rushing attack on his shoulders every week.

At nearly 6'0" and more than 220 pounds, Hood has excellent strength and power. He also exhibits good vision and quickness through holes, plus he has above-average speed to make big plays once he clears traffic.

The North Carolina pledge is a mix of Marshawn Lynch of the Seattle Seahawks and Eddie Lacy of the Green Bay Packers.

Jaden Gault, OT

10 of 11

Wisconsin is getting a good one in Jaden Gault. The 4-star offensive tackle is better than many people think, as he has the skills to be an All-Big Ten left tackle—and more.

At 6'7" and 305 pounds, Gault has the strength to stymie rushers immediately at the line of scrimmage as a short-setter. He moves well when he's engaged, plus he has no problems deep-setting and dancing in space.

The future Badger is tough and solid as a run-blocker, as he is capable of finishing blocks with power. It may be because he's set to attend the same school as the All-Pro left tackle, but Gault could be the next Joe Thomas.
