Texas Tops 'Forbes' List of Most Valuable College Football Teams

Kyle NewportJun 7, 2018

Although the Texas Longhorns went through a lot this season, they continue to be the most valuable college football team, according to Forbes' Chris Smith.

The Longhorns are worth $139 million. They were the only team to bring in more than $100 million in revenue, and it was the second consecutive season in which they surpassed that mark.

Texas went 8-4 and lost its final game versus Baylor, which meant that it would not be going to a BCS bowl. However, ticket sales and a lucrative television deal have the Longhorns bringing in a lot of cash.

Alabama made its way up to No. 3 as it chased a three-peat this season. The Crimson Tide were the only school in the top six to make it to a BCS game. Oklahoma and Ohio State, both of which made BCS bowls, made it into the top 10.

Where did the top schools in the country fall? Auburn ($77 million) came in at No. 11, and Florida State didn't even finish in the top 20.

Let's take a look at the list of the most valuable college football teams of 2013:

1Texas Longhorns8-4$139 millionBig 12
2Notre Dame Fighting Irish8-4$117 millionIndependent
3Alabama Crimson Tide11-1$110 millionSEC

18South Carolina Gamecocks10-2$65 millionSEC
19Oregon Ducks10-2$64 millionPac-12
20Tennessee Volunteers5-7$63 millionSEC

The SEC was well represented, with nine teams on the list. There were a few teams with losing records that made the list as well (Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee).

Winning doesn't make a team the most valuable, as this list shows. Texas has been the most valuable team since 2009, so keep an eye on the Longhorns next year to see if they keep the top spot.
