Here’s a look at the seven sides that will be competing from Dec. 11-21:
| Club | Country | Confederation |
| Al Ahly SC | Egypt | CAF |
| Atletico Mineiro | Brazil | CONMEBOL |
| Auckland City FC | New Zealand | OFC |
| CF Monterrey | Mexico | CONCACAF |
| Guangzhou Evergrande FC | China PR | AFC |
| FC Bayern Munich | Germany | UEFA |
| Raja Casablanca | Morocco | Hosts |
Bayern Munich, who will be making their debut in the event, will be firm favourites to take home the top prize.
The Bundesliga club clinched a historic treble during the 2012/13 season under the tutelage of Jupp Heynckes. The German coach has since retired but new boss Pep Guardiola knows all about winning the Club World Cup, having lifted the title with Barcelona in both 2009 and 2011.
Their main threat will come in the form of Atletico Mineiro, whose roster is made up of Brazilians mostly and includes players like Ronaldinho, Gilberto Silva and Rever.
The Belo Horizonte-based club captured their first ever Copa Libertadores crown when they beat Paraguayan side Olimpia on penalties in the final.
The event also offers Egyptian side Al Ahly some much-needed playing time. The CAF Champions League winners have seen their time on the football pitch reduced recently due to the current situation in their home country.
The Egyptian domestic league has been suspended since early last year, so Al Ahly’s only football has come in the CAF Champions League.
No African side has ever won the Club World Cup. European teams lead the way with five titles, while South American sides have emerged victorious on four occasions, including last year when Corinthians beat Chelsea in the final in Japan.
But if there is one manager who knows a thing or two about upsetting the odds on the big stage, it’s Marcello Lippi.
Lippi, who led Italy to World Cup glory in 2006, is currently the boss at Guangzhou Evergrande. The Italian became the first manager to win both the UEFA Champions League and its Asian equivalent when he led Guangzhou Evergrande to glory earlier this year.
The Chinese side enter the draw at the quarter-final stage, while both Bayern and Atletico receive a bye to the semi-final.
The opening four matches will take place in Agadir, before the spotlight shines on Marrakech.
