Sergio Aguero Doesn't Want Real Madrid Transfer from Manchester City

Christopher AtkinsJun 7, 2018

Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini does not believe there is any truth to suggestions that star striker Sergio Aguero is looking to leave the Etihad Stadium in coming transfer windows.

Aguero, who is already in double figures in the Premier League and has six Champions League goals to his name this season, has been rumoured to be a target for Real Madrid.

Responding to the transfer speculation regarding both Aguero and midfielder Yaya Toure, per Andy Hampson of the Press Association via the Daily Mail, Pellegrini said:

"

I don't know anything about that. I don't think Sergio wants to leave. That is not a problem for us. I don't believe in that. Both of them [Aguero and Toure] are very happy here and they will stay with us.

"

While Manchester City's form has been inconsistent thus far this campaign, Aguero has been sensational and has shot to the top of the league's goal-scoring charts ahead of the likes of Luis Suarez, Wayne Rooney and Daniel Sturridge.

The Argentine has quickly struck up an impressive understanding with Spain striker Alvaro Negredo in attack, with both players regularly among the goals and assists providers when used together.

While Aguero is a former Atletico Madrid player, it has not stopped speculation linking him with a move to cross-city rivals Real. Indeed, just this weekend, the Mirror's Alex Richards reported that Los Merengues were considering a £48 million bid for his services.

Given City's ambitions to compete at the top end of European football, it is difficult to imagine them selling a key player for such a price—in the knowledge that Real paid well in excess of that fee for Wales star Gareth Bale this summer.

The only reason they would possibly consider condoning such a transaction would be if Aguero himself were unhappy at the club. At present, that would appear to be far from the case—as attested by Pellegrini himself.

City, despite Arsenal's early lead in the Premier League table, will consider the title a realistic ambition for the current season. However, they will need Aguero to be free from distraction if they are to achieve that aim.

Given his talents, as one of the world's leading strikers, he is the one forward player the club find difficult to replace when injured or out of form. Pellegrini, thus far, has Aguero firing on all cylinders.
