EPL Table Week 14: Breaking Down How Saturday's Action Impacted Standings

Tim DanielsNov 30, 2013

Saturday marked the beginning of an extremely busy stretch of action for clubs around the Premier League. Every squad will play three matches in quick succession, which could lead to a shakeup of the table by the time the dust settles next weekend.

Although most of the marquee action for Matchday 13 is going to take place on Sunday, including Tottenham vs. Manchester United and Chelsea vs. Southampton, league leader Arsenal and European contender Everton highlighted Saturday's slate.

Here's a look at the updated table for Week 14:

Arsenal put together another strong road performance to score a 3-0 victory over Cardiff. Aaron Ramsey struck twice and Mathieu Flamini also scored for the Gunners, who ensured they will maintain at least a four-point edge over their closest competition heading into the midweek fixtures.

Arsene Wenger's group deserves a lot of credit for continuing to stand tall atop the table while the other top contenders wait for them to falter. Whether they can maintain top form long enough to hold off Manchester City, Chelsea and Co. is unknown, but everything is going according to plan so far.

Everton ended their three-match draw streak with one of their most impressive showings of the campaign so far. Gerard Deulofeu, Seamus Coleman, Bryan Oviedo and Romelu Lukaku all scored for the Toffees in a 4-0 romp of Stoke.

The addition of Lukaku has given Everton the consistent attacking presence they have lacked in recent seasons. If he's able to keeping finding the net as such a dazzling rate for the entire campaign, a European berth will certainly be within reach.

Elsewhere, Sunderland were able to climb out of the Premier League basement with a road draw against Aston Villa. Neither side was able to generate many scoring chances, which didn't come as a surprise given their attacking struggles this season.

Norwich rode a first-half goal from Gary Hooper to a 1-0 triumph over Crystal Palace. The win gives the Canaries some welcome breathing room ahead of the relegation zone. On the flip side, the defeat leaves the Eagles all alone in last place.

West Ham sent Fulham deeper into their slide with a 3-0 win, which helps the Irons move away from the relegation zone, much like Norwich. Mohamed Diame, Carlton Cole and Joe Cole provided the offense.

Finally, the late game seen West Brom equalize early in the second half courtesy of Chris Brunt after Yoan Gouffran had given Newcastle a lead in the first.

Just a few minutes later, however, Moussa Sissoko connected on a laser to give the Magpies a win and a spot in the top five, at least until tomorrow.
