Group Breakdown and Permutations
Group A
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Manchester United | 11 | 11 | 3 | +8 |
| 2 | Shakhtar Donetsk | 8 | 7 | 5 | +2 |
| 3 | Bayer Leverkusen | 7 | 8 | 10 | -2 |
| 4 | Real Sociedad | 1 | 1 | 9 | -8 |
Manchester United's emphatic 5-0 thrashing of Bayer Leverkusen confirmed the Red Devils a place in the knockout stages, but their previous draw against Real Sociedad ensures they still have work to do if top spot is to be confirmed.
Shakhtar Donetsk know a win at Old Trafford will see them usurp the English club as winners of Group A, and will potentially line up an easier draw in the round of 16.
That said, if David Moyes' side perform with anything like the speed, power and finishing prowess we saw in Germany, the Ukrainian outfit may see themselves drop into the Europa League.
Leverkusen will be confident of overcoming Real Sociedad in Spain. Three points for Sami Hyypia's men, combined with anything less than a win for Shakhtar, will see the Bundesliga side go through in second.
Group B
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Real Madrid | 13 | 18 | 5 | +13 |
| 2 | Juventus | 6 | 9 | 8 | +1 |
| 3 | Galatasaray | 4 | 7 | 14 | -7 |
| 4 | Copenhagen | 4 | 4 | 11 | -7 |
Real Madrid are guaranteed group winners and can afford to rest key players heading into the final match.
Despite losing their last two Champions League games, Galatasaray can still sneak into the knockout stages with a win over Juventus at the Turk Telecom Arena. They also have a better head-to-head record against Copenhagen, who can no longer qualify following their 3-1 loss in Turin.
Group C
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Paris Saint-Germain | 13 | 15 | 3 | +12 |
| 2 | Olympiakos | 7 | 7 | 7 | 0 |
| 3 | Benfica | 7 | 6 | 7 | -1 |
| 4 | Anderlecht | 1 | 3 | 14 | -11 |
Paris Saint-Germain claimed the winners spot with their late victory against Olympiacos, who now have a straight fight with Benfica for the runners-up position.
Luckily for the Greek side, a poor Anderlecht team visit the Karaiskakis Stadium on the final day, while Benfica host the Ligue 1 champions in Portugal.
Olympiacos have a better head-to-head result against the Liga Sagres side, meaning Benfica will have to gain more points than Michel's side on the final day.
Group D
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Bayern Munich | 15 | 15 | 2 | +13 |
| 2 | Manchester City | 12 | 15 | 8 | +7 |
| 3 | CSKA Moscow | 3 | 7 | 15 | -8 |
| 4 | Viktoria Plzen | 0 | 4 | 16 | -12 |
Although both Bayern Munich and Manchester City have already qualified, first place is still up for grabs if Manuel Pellegrini's team really want it:
Bayern racked up a 3-1 victory at the Etihad, meaning the Premier League team will need to better this result at the Allianz Arena to claim the overall plaudits. Viktoria Plzen are in a similar situation and can grab a Europa League place if they beat CSKA Moscow with a scoreline higher than 3-2.
Group E
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Chelsea | 9 | 11 | 3 | +8 |
| 2 | Basel | 8 | 5 | 4 | +1 |
| 3 | Schalke | 7 | 4 | 6 | -2 |
| 4 | Steau Bucharest | 3 | 2 | 9 | -7 |
Chelsea have confirmed their place in the knockout stage but will be wary of passing up points in their final game against Steaua Bucharest.
Failure to win will see Basel go through as group victors if they overcome Schalke at the Veltins Arena. The Swiss side only need a draw to get through, while their opponents can still make the round of 16 with a win.
Group F
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Arsenal | 12 | 8 | 3 | +5 |
| 2 | Borussia Dortmund | 9 | 9 | 5 | +4 |
| 3 | Napoli | 9 | 8 | 9 | -1 |
| 4 | Marseille | 0 | 4 | 12 | -8 |
Undoubtedly the most complex group sees Arsenal on the verge of qualifying.
A point in their final game against Napoli is enough to see Arsene Wenger's men through, allowing Borussia Dortmund to confirm second by matching the Serie A side's result in Marseille.
Should Napoli overcome the Gunners and Dortmund take three points at the Stade Velodrome, the top three will face a mini-league scenario that prioritises goal difference in matches between each of the sides on 12 points.
Dortmund's GD of plus-one against Napoli and Arsenal is set in stone, while Arsenal's currently stands at plus-two and Napoli's on minus-three. This means the Italian team would need to win by three clear goals if Dortmund also notch three points.
Group G
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Atletico Madrid | 13 | 13 | 3 | +10 |
| 2 | Zenit St. Petersburg | 6 | 4 | 5 | -1 |
| 3 | Porto | 5 | 4 | 5 | -1 |
| 4 | Austria Vienna | 2 | 1 | 9 | -8 |
Atletico Madrid have dominated this group with an unbeaten run and deservedly advance as winners.
All Zenit St. Petersburg need to do in the final match is beat Austria Vienna away from home, which is something the Russian team will be extremely confident of doing, considering their final opponents are yet to win in the competition.
Should they fail to secure three points and Porto overcome Atleti, the Portuguese side will steal second.
Group H
| Team | PTS | GF | GA | GD | |
| 1 | Barcelona | 10 | 10 | 4 | +6 |
| 2 | AC Milan | 8 | 8 | 5 | +3 |
| 3 | Ajax | 7 | 5 | 8 | -3 |
| 4 | Celtic | 3 | 2 | 8 | -6 |
Barcelona can still drop top spot if Celtic pull off a stunning victory at the Camp Nou. While this is unlikely, the match between Milan and Ajax is likely to decide how the final group reads.
Milan only need a draw to confirm second at the San Siro, while Frank de Boer's youngsters can snatch a place in the last 16 if they secure three points in Italy. Celtic cannot make the Europa League and are playing for pride in Catalonia.
