Clemson vs. South Carolina: TV Info, Spread, Injury Updates, Game Time and More

Jun 8, 2018

The No. 6 Clemson Tigers travel to Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday for a clash with a familiar opponent, the No. 10 South Carolina Gamecocks, in a historic rivalry that dates back to 1896.

The surging Gamecocks are on a four-game winning streak and have won four straight in their rivalry against the Tigers as well. South Carolina needs to keep its streak alive in order to keep pace with the No. 5 Missouri Tigers, who lead the SEC East.

Clemson has also won four straight and must win in what may be a futile attempt to keep up with No. 2 Florida State in the ACC Atlantic. For what it's worth, the Tigers lead the all-time series between these two at 65-41-4.

Will Tajh Boyd Show Up?

It's now or never for Tigers senior quarterback Tajh Boyd.

Boyd has appeared in three games against the Gamecocks during his tenure with Clemson. As ESPN.com's Heather Dinich illustrates, the results have not been pretty:

"

According to ESPN’s Stats & Information department, in three games against South Carolina (two starts), Boyd has averaged just 113.0 passing yards per game and thrown more interceptions (three) than touchdowns (two). He has been sacked 14 times and held to minus-15 yards rushing. He has thrown only four completions that have gained at least 20 yards.

"

Ouch.

Last year, South Carolina star defensive end Jadeveon Clowney tallied 4.5 sacks of Boyd. The Clemson faithful may expect more of the same on Saturday because the Tigers have allowed 28 sacks this season.

Boyd simply cannot do it all on his own, but he may be forced to try. The senior is one touchdown shy of throwing for more than 30 scores for a third straight season and has a career-low seven interceptions as a starter this year.

None of that matters now, as a loss would potentially sink the Tigers' BCS hopes and extend their rivalry losing streak to five games.

Prediction

Boyd faces a tall task in a hostile Williams-Brice Stadium behind a shaky offensive line that will be asked to contain arguably the top prospect for the 2014 NFL draft.

Even worse, Boyd is the team's second-leading rusher and leads the Tigers in rushing touchdowns with eight. Like the past few seasons, Boyd will be on the run once more with Clowney in pursuit, which means he will have little time to unleash the ball deep to an elite speedster such as receiver Sammy Watkins.

The sexy pick seems to be Clemson finally stopping the streak, but the Gamecocks are a tough out at home, having won 17 straight there for the nation's longest home winning streak, and have a top-20 scoring defense that is more than familiar with Boyd.

South Carolina slips by to win its fifth straight.

Final Score: Gamecocks 23, Tigers 17
