Tottenham vs. Manchester United
Before their last time out, Tottenham had only allowed six goals all season. However, Manchester City matched that in just 90 minutes with a dominating 6-0 victory.
It is not easy for any team to recover from this type of rout. However, Spurs did come back from a 3-0 defeat to West Ham United to have three clean sheets in a row. With their ability to play defense, it is not unreasonable to think they will be involved in another low-scoring battle.
Still, Manchester United have enough skill on the attack to get at least a goal or two in this matchup. Thanks to Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and others, the club has scored in nine straight league matches.
Considering Tottenham's struggles offensively, this will be enough for the road team to earn a win.
Prediction: Manchester United 1, Tottenham 0
Chelsea vs. Southampton
Southampton have been by far the best defensive club in the EPL this season, allowing only seven goals in 12 matches. Centre-backs Dejan Lovren and Jose Fonte have been impressive all year, and they make it easy on Artur Boruc.
Of course, the recent loss to Arsenal showed that Boruc is capable of making a mistake. Chelsea might not have one elite scorer, but they have enough talent on the attack to take advantage of any misstep by their opponent.
Additionally, the Blues can beat the opposing defense with long shots from Frank Lampard, Oscar or others.
Meanwhile, Southampton attackers Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert will struggle to beat the experienced back line of Chelsea. After failing to be productive against the top clubs around the league, this match should not be much different.
Prediction: Chelsea 1, Southampton 0
Manchester City vs. Swansea City
This is the only other matchup between two clubs currently in the top half of the table, although this one will not necessarily be close. The reason is that this match will be played at Etihad Stadium.
While Manchester City have been inconsistent this year, they have been truly dominant at home. They have won all six of their league home matches so far and have outscored opponents by a score of 26-2.
Sergio Aguero is making a run for Player of the Year with a league-leading 10 goals, and he is getting a lot of help from Alvaro Negredo and Yaya Toure. This offense is tough for anyone to stop.
Considering only six teams have allowed more goals this season than Swansea City, this could lead to a blowout.
Prediction: Manchester City 4, Swansea City 1
