Premier League Week 13 Predictions: Projecting Top Goalscorers

Leigh WalshNov 27, 2013

There were goals aplenty in Week 12 of Premier League action, and Week 13 promises to be no different.

With some of the world’s finest strikers plying their trade in England, there have been plenty of moments that have had us up off our seats in the opening 12 games.

There have been over 300 goals celebrated in the league this term, with Manchester City leading the way with 34 of those.

All odds from Boylessports.

Sergio Aguero
To score two or more goals: 11/4

Aguero’s overall contribution to Manchester City this season has been immense. The Argentine has scored more goals in the league than Spurs, Hull City, West Ham, Sunderland and Crystal Palace have done in total.

The diminutive forward tops the goalscoring charts this term with 10 goals, and he has assisted a further eight.

At the Etihad, City have been rampant. They are more aggressive in their approach when playing in front of their own fans, and Aguero has been a direct benefactor.

He has struck up an almost telepathic partnership with Alvaro Negredo, and the duo don’t show any signs of slowing up.

Aguero will relish the chance to take on the Swansea defence in Sunday’s late kick-off. The Swans have conceded four goals in their last two outings against Stoke and Fulham, and Aguero and Co. will present them with a whole new set of challenges.

Luis Suarez
To score two or more goals: 3/1

Suarez has scored nine in his seven league appearances this season, and he will be expected to continue his run of form against a Hull side that are leaking more than a goal per game.

Hull’s last four matches have come against Crystal Palace, Southampton, Sunderland and Spurs, but they won’t have faced a challenge like Suarez since Aguero bore down on them back in August.

Suarez’s off-the-ball movement will trouble Hull’s back line, stretching them across the pitch and creating holes in their rearguard. He is comfortable picking up the ball out wide and down the centre, which makes him very difficult to mark.

Similarly to Aguero and Negredo, Suarez and Daniel Sturridge have linked up beautifully since the Uruguayan’s return from suspension.

The pair have bagged 18 goals between them in the league, and Suarez should add to that tally at the KC Stadium.

Olivier Giroud
To score two or more goals: 3/1

Jack Wilshere thinks Olivier Giroud has been Arsenal’s best player this season—per Sky Sports—and it’s difficult to argue with that assessment.

The Frenchman has scored seven goals in the league and assisted four—per ESPN FC—but it has been his overall contribution to his team that has drawn the most praise.

He fits into the Arsenal set-up perfectly, playing the anchor role at the head of the Gunners attack, holding up the ball and inviting his team-mates forward.

Cardiff enjoy a physical battle. Steven Caulker and Co. have kept strong, powerful forwards like Christian Benteke and Romelu Lukaku at bay this season, but while Giroud is an old-fashioned No. 9, he possesses great feet.

Cardiff may be able to keep him quiet in the air, but the Frenchman has the beating of them on the ground.

Loic Remy
To score two or more goals: 6/1

Remy has been one of the Premier League’s standout strikers since he arrived in England back in January. He is an out-and-out goalscorer, and his form has propelled Newcastle to eighth in the table

This season the Frenchman has bagged eight goals and assisted one, and he will be hoping to increase his tally against West Bromwich Albion.

Just one team separates Newcastle and the Baggies in the table, and their match at St James’ park will be a tight affair.

Remy’s goal-poaching abilities can often make the difference in these closely contested games, and if Newcastle are to emerge victorious then expect this man to be the reason why.
