Premier League Betting Tips Week 13: Top Matches and Goalscorers to Wager

Tim DanielsNov 25, 2013

The best part about the Premier League campaign through 12 weeks of action is the overall level of competitiveness. The difference between Arsenal in first place and Tottenham in ninth place is just eight points, which should make for a terrific rest of the season.

There are a couple of marquee fixtures on tap for Week 13. Spurs will look to rebound against Manchester United after a forgettable blowout loss to Manchester City, while Chelsea hope to put some distance between themselves and a solid Southampton squad.

Neither of those spotlight clashes presents much wagering value, though. So let's take a look at some of the top selections for Matchday 13, including both match and goalscorer picks.

Top Match Selections

Everton and Stoke City to draw (+280)

Everton are leading the Premier League with six draws in 12 matches. Stoke are tied for third in the league with four. So it's clear these are two clubs that play a lot of close games, which allows the draw pick to provide very good value.

Even though the Toffees scored three goals against Liverpool, don't expect them to continue that type of scoring pace. The derby was played with a very wide-open style of play, something a defensive-minded Potters side likely won't allow, leading to a low-scoring draw.

Newcastle United to beat West Brom (+100)

Quietly, Newcastle are playing some really good football as of late. They posted clean-sheet victories over Chelsea and Tottenham before the latest international break, and although they didn't play as well after the week off against Norwich, they still found a way to earn all three points.

The Magpies know the margin for error will be very small if they want to make a serious push toward a European berth. In turn, these are the type of matches they need to win on home turf and should be able to do exactly that against a middling West Brom squad that's struggled to maintain top form.

Goalscorers To Pick

Christian Benteke (Aston Villa vs. Sunderland)

Christian Benteke hasn't been scoring at the same impressive rate he did during his breakout campaign last season. That said, the Belgian international is still one of the Premier League's most potent strikers and should get plenty of looks at goal against Sunderland.

The last-place Black Cats have allowed more goals than any other club so far. Their back line will struggle to contain Benteke, who has a rare combination of size, strength and finishing ability. He should find the net at least once on Saturday.

Olivier Giroud (Arsenal at Cardiff City)

After a red-hot start to the season, Olivier Giroud had cooled off heading into the international break. Luckily for Arsenal, it looks like he's ready to go on another run after scoring twice to lead the Gunners past Southampton over the weekend.

He should have numerous chances to add to his goalscoring total against Cardiff, which are tied for the fifth-worst defense with 17 goals allowed. Giroud is a streaky player capable of going on some outstanding runs, so take advantage of that coming off a strong showing.
