Fantasy Premier League 2013 Week 13: Defenders, Midfielders and Strikers to Sign

Tom SunderlandNov 25, 2013

Whether you're sitting at the glorious summit of your respective fantasy leagues or wallowing at the basement end, there's always room to improve as a fantasy football manager.

As always, Week 13 of the Premier League season throws up a batch of fixtures that smiles more favourably upon some players than it does others, so it is your job to find the bargains from the... well... Erik Lamelas.

Whether your wallet is stacked or you're living off scraps, read on for a selection of transfers worth considering before next weekend kicks off.

All values and statistics are in reference to the Official Fantasy Premier League website.

Jon Flanagan, Liverpool

Value: £4.5 million

After having an extremely good turnout against Everton over the weekend, Jon Flanagan will surely be considered for future starts at left-back under Brendan Rodgers, with the weekend's trip to Hull City the next available opening.

In the absence of Jose Enrique, the 20-year-old made a staggering nine tackles against the Toffees, according to WhoScored.com, more than any other player on the day.

Granted, it didn't result in a clean sheet for the Reds, but the challenge of Steve Bruce's Hull City side isn't quite as drastic as that of Romelu Lukaku and Co. Therefore, Flanagan will be well positioned to pick up a clean sheet in Liverpool's next outing and possibly even grab some assist points.

Alternative Defensive Picks: Guy Demel vs. Fulham (£5.0 million); Seamus Coleman vs. Stoke City (£5.5 million)

Aaron Ramsey, Arsenal

Value: £7.3 million

Playing against his former club for just the third time in his career but the first time in a Premier League setting, Aaron Ramsey scoring against Cardiff certainly ranks among the most poetic of outcomes.

Now two games without a league goal, the Welshman will soon match his barren three-match period managed at the beginning of the campaign, but that was without the benefit of his new-found invigoration.

The former City starlet does at least keep an eye out for his old side:

Cardiff are currently conceding just over a goal per home game on average, but their defence has struggled when it comes to the bigger clubs especially, leaking five in total to Manchester City, Tottenham and Manchester United.

Meanwhile, Arsenal's away attack is one of the best in the country, averaging 1.83 goals scored per trip outside the Emirates Stadium.

Alternative Midfield Picks: Leroy Fer vs. Crystal Palace (£5.8 million); Leandro Bacuna vs. Sunderland (£4.7 million)

Christian Benteke, Aston Villa

Value: £8.9 million

A risky pick considering the Belgian has been struggling with injury of late, but there's not many sides Christian Benteke would rather play against than a vulnerable Sunderland.

Despite Gus Poyet's arrival at the club, one thing that hasn't changed for the Black Cats is a poor record away from home, having not taken an away point since late August.

If Benteke leads the Villans' attack this weekend, the opportunity for goals is there against a team whose defence is yet to really find its feet when treading outside the Stadium of Light.

Alternative Striker Picks: Alvaro Negredo vs. Swansea City (£9.1 million); Romelu Lukaku vs. Stoke City (£7.9 million)
