BCS Rankings Predictions 2013: How Oklahoma State's Win Will Shake Up Standings
The Cowboys did a fantastic job in the turnover department to help control this game. The Bears coughed up the ball three times while failing to grab one takeaway. Now, there hopes of playing for a national title are all but gone.
The Bears were No. 4 in this week's BCS, but they are obviously in for a fall. This is great news to Urban Meyer and his Ohio State Buckeyes.
Despite having not lost a game since Urban Meyer took over prior to the start of last season, if the BCS' top four teams all won out, the Buckeyes were likely going to finish fourth in the rankings.
Now, there isn't much difference between being third and fourth in the BCS poll. However, there is a huge difference between being second and third. The coveted position of No. 2 in the rankings guarantees a spot in the BCS title game. Ohio State can now feel secure knowing that, should it win out, a team will not leap frog them.
Furthering that confidence is the fact that No. 5 Oregon also fell on Saturday. The Ducks were crushed 42-17 by Rich Rodriguez's Arizona Wildcats.
This is music to the ears of Auburn fans. The No. 6 Tigers were idle this week but are still in line for a jump in the polls with a date against No. 1 Alabama in the Iron Bowl on tap for next weekend.
No. 7 Clemson cruised to a 52-6 victory on Saturday, but that came against an overmatched Citadel team. Given that it was essentially a glorified bye week, Clemson shouldn't have enough juice to jump Auburn.
Missouri, who was eighth in this week's poll, authored a strong 24-10 road win over No. 24 Ole Miss. This will serve Missouri well in the polls. It should help them jump over Oregon and Baylor, but I doubt it will be enough to get them past Clemson.
As for Oklahoma State, the Cowboys were mightily impressive and haven't lost a game since a 30-21 setback against West Virginia on September 28.
The four teams directly in front of them all won, and it will be tough for the Cowboys to make any big gains in the polls. Still, they have to jump ahead of Baylor, right? After all, the two have the same record, and the Cowboys just whooped them.
At any rate, with the way things stand now, here is how Bleacher Report's BCS guru Samuel Chi sees the BCS looking for Week 14:
