Tottenham vs. Newcastle: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Jun 8, 2018

Tottenham Hotspur looks to continue its hot streak in Premier League when it hosts a strong Newcastle United team on Sunday at White Hart Lane.

With both clubs in the upper half of the table, this should be a quality match that gives us a good idea of where each club stands at this point in the campaign. Tottenham will look to keep its place among the top four in the league, while Newcastle will look to prove its shutout victory over Chelsea last week was no fluke.

Here's a look at all the pertinent information for this important EPL matchup:

Top Storyline: Can Newcastle Pull Off Second Upset in a Row?

For the second week in a row, Newcastle will be playing the role of underdog. But will it work out the same way it did last week?

Taking on a top-three club in Chelsea last week, the Magpies weren't expected to win. However, through a fine defensive performance and an opportunistic attack, they not only won, but won convincingly. The 2-0 victory was their most impressive of the season.

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas believes the momentum Newcastle gained makes it a challenging opponent, via SkySports:

"

They have lots of good, good players but overall I think they will have the motivation of beating Chelsea and coming now to play this game against us.

We just have to make sure we are up to our level, we weren't for example in the game against West Ham, we hope to be solid and create as much as we can.

"

Villas-Boas is right. The win over Chelsea should give Newcastle the confidence that it can play with anyone in the league. But defeating Tottenham is a different beast than beating the Blues.

The Spurs will have to find ways to be creative. Poor offensive form has left the club with just nine goals in 10 Premier League matches. Given Newcastle's defensive performance against Chelsea, goals could be hard to come by once again for Villas-Boas' side.

Prediction

Newcastle may be riding high after the win over Chelsea, but this is a different matchup entirely.

While Newcastle showed impressive defensive prowess against the Blues, Spurs have been a defensive terror throughout the season. The defense has given up just five goals in 10 Premier League matches.

The good news for the Magpies is that for as great as Tottenham is defensively, it comes at the cost of a potent attack. Only six teams in the Premier League have fewer goals than the Spurs in league play.

Newcastle was able to score its two goals despite possessing the ball just 39 percent of the time against Chelsea. It'll need a similarly efficient performance to pull off an upset away from home this week.

Expect this game to be a battle of attrition, as neither side will be able to find too many good looks.
