Bundesliga Table 2013 Week 12: Updated Standings Following Matchday 11

Andrew GouldNov 1, 2013

Bundesliga's top-three clubs will look to leave the rest of the grouping further in their dust after another weekend of play.

Entering Matchday 11, third-place Borussia Dortmund and Bayer Leverkusen held a nine-point edge over Borussia Monchengladbach. Nurnberg, entering the weekend seeded 16th out of 18 squads, sits nine points from fourth.

The league is currently controlled by three powerhouses competing amongst themselves for the top billing, which should generate some interesting back-and-forth action among the trio.

As for everyone else, the No. 4 seed remains up in the balance, ensuring a Champions League qualifying bid. Despite drastically different goal differentials, Hertha Berlin and Schalke are neck-and-neck in the standings leading up to their head-to-head matchup.

That's just one of nine matches on tap for this weekend. Here's a look at the Bundesliga table, which will be updated throughout Matchday 11.

Borussia Dortmund 6, VfB Stuttgart 1

Robert Lewandowski kicked off Bundesliga's Matchday 11 with a bang, netting a hat-trick in Borussia Dortmund's 6-1 victory over VfB Stuttgart.

Stuttgart actually held a lead early in the matchup. Karim Haggui gave the road underdogs a 1-0 advantage with a goal early in the first half, but the edge did not last for long. Sokratis Papastathopoulos tied it up six minutes later, and Marco Reus added on another goal during the 22nd minute.

Lewandowski did not score until the second half, but once he started, he couldn't stop. He notched two goals in three minutes to put the match out of hand, and the 25-year-old was still not finished.

Lewandowski was so dominant that ESPN FC's Twitter page correctly anticipated a hat-trick after the striker's second goal.

The premonition came true after a fortuitous bout helped him collect his third goal of the match, increasing his season total to nine. Are Lewandowski and Dortmund just that good, or is the person running the Twitter page a psychic?

During Friday's lone matchup, Dortmund snatched first place with their ninth win through 11 contests, giving them 28 points and a plus-22 goal differential on the season. Their grasp on first place, however, could be short-lived if Bayern Munich defeats TSG Hoffenheim on Saturday.
