Can Miami Live Up to the Hype?
Florida State entering the game as such a large favorite is no mistake.
Winston and the Seminoles have scored 41 or more points in every game this season and have won their last three by 63-, 37- and 32-point margins. The freshman himself has thrown for 2,177 yards, 23 touchdowns and just four interceptions.
Miami's marquee win came back in early September against Florida, a team that has since been exposed as a 4-3 fraud. The Hurricanes most recently escaped with a four-point win over 2-5 North Carolina and a three-point win over 4-4 Wake Forest.
From a historical perspective, Florida State has won the last three meetings by a whopping 101-56 total tally.
So no, the Seminoles entering as such a heavy favorite against another Top-10 team is not unreasonable.
The Hurricanes have much to do in the way of proving they deserve the high rank. An opportunity on a grand scale is available on Saturday.
Prediction
Miami can pull off the upset if this is a low-scoring affair.
Unfortunately that simply is not possible.
The only team being held in check on Saturday is the Hurricanes. After all, this is a Seminoles defense that allows just 13 points per game and held Tajh Boyd and the vaunted Clemson offense to just 14 points.
Miami does have a budding star in the aforementioned Duke Johnson, but his 823 yards and six scores on a 6.7 average mean little with the team consistently playing from behind. Quarterback Stephen Morris simply does not have what it takes in a shootout—he's completing under 60 percent of his passes with just 10 touchdowns to eight interceptions.
Anything is possible in this rivalry, and history has seen Miami enter as underdogs to pull off the shocking upset—but this year is different. Winston is simply too great, and Florida State will roll at home.
Final Score
Seminoles win 38-23
