How Are the Top 25 Recruits in the Class of 2013 Holding Up as Freshmen?
The college football season is now in Week 10, which means teams have a good idea of the identity of their rosters. November's arrival also means there is enough of a sample size to have a great feel for how the top incoming true freshmen have played this season.
The 2013 recruiting class featured a ton of recruits who had the chance to be special. Some have gone on to make an immediate impact on the field, while others have struggled.
Using the Top 25 prospects from the 2013 247Sports Composite Recruiting Rankings, updates are ahead for the top recruits from last year's recruiting cycle.
Note: Sizes for players are based on their college team's rosters.
25. Ricky Seals-Jones, WR—Texas A&M
1 of 25
A 6'5", 225-pound beast of an athlete, Ricky Seals-Jones has rare skills at the receiver position. However, due to a year-ending knee injury (CBS Sports), he did not get a chance to fully show his talent this season.
Seals-Jones appeared in two games this year, according to the official stats listed by Texas A&M. He caught three passes for 84 yards and one touchdown. The big receiver will likely be awarded a medical redshirt by the NCAA, as he will come back strong in 2014.
24. Keith Ford, RB—Oklahoma
2 of 25
Hailing from Texas, Keith Ford is a talented running back who has a well-rounded running style. At 5'11" and 205 pounds, he has good elusiveness and solid power.
Ford has played mainly a reserve role for Oklahoma this season, as his numbers show limited production. He has seen time in seven games, rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown, per the official stats of Oklahoma.
Just because Ford's stats are not impressive does not mean he has been a disappointment. When given the opportunity, he has flashed great potential in Norman.
23. Robert Foster, WR—Alabama
3 of 25
With his outstanding speed, Robert Foster has electric ability with the ball in his hands. However, he has not had a chance to show what he can do at Alabama just yet.
Foster has not appeared in any games, as the Crimson Tide's depth chart at receiver has proven to be too steep a hill to climb. The 6'3", 187-pound speedster will get his chance to shine, but it may not come this year.
22. Kelvin Taylor, RB—Florida
4 of 25
The son of former Florida running back Fred Taylor, Kelvin Taylor was one of the top running back prospects in the 2013 class. With his great instincts and quickness, Taylor has good size at 5'10" and 214 pounds.
He has played in five games this season, per Florida's official stats.
Taylor has 28 carries, 179 yards and a touchdown. However, those numbers are likely to increase after this weekend, as the Orlando Sentinel reports Taylor will start for the Gators against Georgia.
21. Carl Lawson, DE—Auburn
5 of 25
The 6'2", 258-pound Carl Lawson has made a solid impact this season at Auburn, as he has played in all eight games and has made 14 tackles, according to Auburn's official stats.
Lawson's best game came against Ole Miss, as he registered two sacks. He is an emerging star who could be one of the Tigers' defensive leaders as a sophomore. Look for Lawson to have a strong finish to his freshman season.
20. Thomas Tyner, RB—Oregon
6 of 25
Perhaps the fastest prospect in the 2013 class, Thomas Tyner is a fantastic fit in Oregon's offense. The 5'11", 201-pound running back is part of a backfield that also features studs such as De'Anthony Thomas and Byron Marshall.
In seven games, Tyner has 68 carries for 437 yards and eight touchdowns, according to the official stats reported by Oregon. Based on how Tyner has produced this season, it would not be surprising if he made several Freshman All-American teams.
19. O.J. Howard, TE—Alabama
7 of 25
O.J. Howard has shown flashes this season of why he was such an elite tight end recruit in 2013. He has terrific athleticism and receiving skills on a 6'6", 237-pound frame.
Howard has appeared in eight games, catching 10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, per Alabama's official stats. His speed and quickness are great for the tight end position, which he has displayed several times this year.
Howard is a future star for the Tide.
18. Chris Jones, DL—Mississippi State
8 of 25
Chris Jones was listed at 250 pounds as a 2013 recruit by 247Sports, but now he is 305 pounds. He has a bright future ahead of him, evidenced by his impressive play so far this season.
In seven games, Jones has 17 tackles and a sack, per Mississippi State's official stats. He also has four tackles-for-loss and five quarterback hurries.
Jones will only get better as time wears on, which is a scary thought for opposing SEC offenses.
17. Kendall Fuller, CB—Virginia Tech
9 of 25
Kendall Fuller has made his presence felt at Virginia Tech since the start of training camp. He is a valuable member of the Hokies defense, as he plays the nickel role for defensive coordinator Bud Foster.
Already with five interceptions, Fuller has started eight games and also has 31 tackles this season, according to the official stats shown by Virginia Tech. At 5'11" and 193 pounds, he exhibits natural cover skills and instincts.
Fuller is on pace to have a special career in Blacksburg.
16. Jonathan Allen, DE—Alabama
10 of 25
Although he is not starting for Alabama, Jonathan Allen has played in seven games. He has seven tackles and one quarterback hurry, per the Tide's official stats.
Allen has bulked up to 264 pounds and stands 6'3". He has shown great strength at the point of attack, plus his quickness off the ball has been impressive. Alabama's defense will be strong for years to come, and it appears Allen is a future cornerstone for the Tide.
15. Jalen Ramsey, DB—Florida State
11 of 25
Quarterback Jameis Winston has led the way for Florida State, but the Seminoles also have a future superstar in defensive back Jalen Ramsey.
Ramsey has made seven starts in the 'Noles secondary, as he has alternated between cornerback and safety. He has 29 tackles, one interception, one sack and one forced fumble so far this season, says Florida State's official stats.
At 6'1" and 195 pounds, Ramsey combines great size with outstanding athleticism and instincts. He will continue Florida State's tradition of great defensive backs.
14. Laquon Treadwell, WR—Ole Miss
12 of 25
Ole Miss has itself a future No. 1 receiver in Laquon Treadwell. At 6'3" and 215 pounds, the true freshman looks like a senior on the hoof.
Treadwell has 41 receptions for 385 yards and two touchdowns through eight games, per Ole Miss' stats. He has displayed good speed to stretch the field, plus his size allows him to be physical versus press-coverage when releasing off the line.
The 2013 recruit has people in Oxford excited about the future.
13. Christian Hackenberg, QB—Penn State
13 of 25
Christian Hackenberg is the future of Penn State football, and he has played well for a true freshman. At 6'4" and 220 pounds, he has good arm strength and toughness.
As the starting quarterback for the Nittany Lions, Hackenberg has thrown for 1,784 yards and 12 touchdowns through seven games, per Penn State's official stats. He is also fighting through a shoulder injury, according to the Allentown Morning Call.
There is a chance Hackenberg only stays in Happy Valley for three seasons.
12. Derrick Henry, RB—Alabama
14 of 25
Derrick Henry is a huge running back who is 6'3" and 238 pounds. He has solid power, but Henry also likes to elude defenders with quickness.
He has 21 carries for 228 yards and one touchdown in seven games for Alabama, per the Tide's official stats. Due to his size, Henry could grow into a tight end/H-back, but he has shown that his natural position is clearly running back.
Henry has made a good contribution to Alabama's offense this season. His role will only expand as his career progresses.
11. Max Browne, QB—USC
15 of 25
Max Browne has not gotten on the field for USC, as he is expected to redshirt. The 6'5", 215-pounder flashed good skills during spring practice and in training camp, but he is behind Cody Kessler and Max Wittek on the Trojans' depth chart.
With a new head coach coming to USC after this season, combined with Kessler not exactly playing impressively, there's a chance the Trojans' starting quarterback job will be up for grabs in 2014.
Browne will have another chance to seize the position he seems destined for greatness at.
10. Montravius Adams, DT—Auburn
16 of 25
Montravius Adams is enjoying an admirable opening campaign to his tenure at Auburn. The talented defensive tackle has played in seven games and has 15 tackles, one sack and six quarterback hurries, according to Auburn's stats.
At 6'4" and 305 pounds, Adams has great first-step quickness to surge off the line. He also has raw strength, which has allowed him to hold his own versus older offensive linemen.
Once Adams becomes more consistent with his technique, he should become a superstar.
9. Kenny Bigelow, DT—USC
17 of 25
USC signed Kenny Bigelow with the intent on watching him dominate Pac-12 offensive linemen. However, that likely won't happen this season with Bigelow being expected to redshirt.
The 6'3", 300-pounder has excellent explosiveness off the ball. He plays big at the point of attack before fighting to pressure with strength and athleticism. Bigelow may not be making an impact right now for the Trojans, but he will soon be one of their best defensive players.
8. Matthew Thomas, OLB—Florida State
18 of 25
Matthew Thomas had carved out a niche for himself in Florida State's defense before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury, according to the Miami Herald.
A freakish athlete, Thomas played in four games this season for the Seminoles. He had four tackles, one sack and two tackles-for-loss, according to the official stats provided by Florida State.
Before his injury, Thomas did flash the speed and agility that made him such a coveted recruit in the 2013 cycle. He'll be fine in Tallahassee once he gets healthy.
7. Reuben Foster, LB—Alabama
19 of 25
Among the best linebacker prospects in recent history, Reuben Foster has remarkable talent. He has great instincts, strength and speed to go along with a 6'1" frame that weighs more than 240 pounds.
Foster has made seven tackles in seven games of action this year, per the official stats reported by the Tide. However, with Alabama boasting talented 'backers like C.J. Mosley and Trey DePriest, it will be hard for Foster to spread his wings this season.
Look for him to make a bigger impact next year and beyond.
6. Eddie Vanderdoes, DT—UCLA
20 of 25
Although he signed with Notre Dame, Eddie Vanderdoes fought his way to UCLA. The big defensive tackle has incredible strength and power, which he uses to beat up blockers in the trenches.
Vanderdoes has 29 tackles, half a sack, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and one forced fumble in seven games, says UCLA's official stats. He's shown that he's going to be a menace in the Pac-12 for years to come.
5. Su'a Cravens, S—USC
21 of 25
USC may have its next great safety in freshman Su'a Cravens. The savvy defender has quickly become the best defensive back for the Trojans.
Cravens, who is now 6'1" and 215 pounds, has displayed excellent instincts and awareness. As a starting safety for USC, he leads the team with three interceptions.
Cravens also has 37 tackles, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery through eight games, according to USC's official stats.
4. Laremy Tunsil, OT—Ole Miss
22 of 25
Laremy Tunsil has done a wonderful job holding his own in the trenches of the SEC. He has started to firmly entrench himself as the Rebels' starting left tackle, plus he has added bulk to his frame.
Tunsil was 295 pounds as a recruit, but the 6'6" blocker is now up to 315 pounds. Tunsil has improved his strength, but it's his athleticism and agility that allows him to shadow rushers in space.
He could be Ole Miss' best offensive tackle since Michael Oher.
3. Vernon Hargreaves III, CB—Florida
23 of 25
Vernon Hargreaves III is one of the best cornerback recruits of the BCS era. The 5'11", 192-pounder has rare instincts, quickness and cover skills.

2. Jaylon Smith, OLB—Notre Dame
24 of 25
Jaylon Smith is now 6'2.5" and 230 pounds, according to Notre Dame.
An eight-game starter for the Irish, Smith has 39 tackles, 4.5 tackles-for-loss, one interception and one fumble recovery, according to Notre Dame's official stats.
Smith exhibits great athleticism, which is aided by his speed and quickness. He can rush the passer off the edges, but the talented 'backer also has the skills to effectively cover running backs and tight ends.
1. Robert Nkemdiche, DE—Ole Miss
25 of 25
Robert Nkemdiche, the nation's No. 1 2013 prospect, is currently battling a hamstring injury, according to CBS Sports.

He has 15 tackles, four tackles-for-loss, one quarterback hurry and has also broken up two passes, per the Rebels' official stats.
With his size and skill set, it may be only a matter of time before Nkemdiche gets moved to defensive tackle.
