Crystal Palace vs. Arsenal, Oct. 26, 12:45 p.m. BST, BT Sport
The wins just keep on coming for Arsene Wenger.
Arsenal’s French boss simply can’t ask for anything more from his side right now. The hard-fought 4-1 win over Norwich highlighted a team that is not only playing beautiful football, it is willing to dig deep when times get tough.
Chris Hughton’s side performed well during the middle third of the game but were eventually undone by Arsenal’s tremendous passing ability. Mesut Ozil—who racked up two goals against the Canaries, per WhoScored—continues to be instrumental in a midfield that is oozing with class.
Crystal Palace are struggling near the foot of the table. Ian Holloway will be dreaming of a shock against the Premier League leaders, but he certainly won’t be expecting to gain any points.
Southampton vs. Fulham, Oct. 26, 5:30 p.m. BST, Sky Sports
Mauricio Pochettino’s team continue to defy the odds.
Southampton have conceded just three goals this season and continue to effectively do battle with the best. Although five consecutive clean sheets were overcome with the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, a point at Old Trafford builds upon memorable wins against the likes of Liverpool and Swansea.
Martin Jol’s Fulham are not living up to expectations and continue to falter.
A surprise win could push the Cottagers well away from the relegation zone, but if current form is to be followed, St. Mary’s will have plenty more to cheer come Saturday evening.
Sunderland vs. Newcastle, Oct. 27, 1:30 p.m. BST, Sky Sports
This Tyne-and-Wear derby is perhaps the most important in recent times.
Gus Poyet is yet to make a positive impression as Sunderland boss. The 4-0 defeat to Swansea in his first match proved he has real work to do at The Stadium of Light.
Although Newcastle have never recovered from the 3-0 home defeat to the Black Cats last season, Alan Pardew’s men have enough firepower to worry Poyet in his first home fixture.
The Magpies’ 2-2 draw with Liverpool is certainly a step in the right direction, especially as they played much of the game with 10 men.
An expectant Sunderland crowd ensures there’s nothing to lose for the visitors, who can cause real havoc if Loic Remy, Hatem Ben Arfa and Yohan Cabaye turn up the style.
Chelsea vs. Manchester City, Oct. 27, 4:00 p.m. BST, Sky Sports
Here’s a fixture to make you salivate.
Despite playing a dull 0-0 draw in the corresponding fixture last year, both Chelsea and Manchester City will be itching for the win in this one.
Jose Mourinho’s side are currently a single point ahead of their visitors, who arrive at Stamford Bridge having notched up 16 points in eight games.
A loss for either will give Spurs, Southampton and Everton the chance to play leapfrog, ensuring there’s plenty of weight on this early-season clash of the big spenders.
It also provides Manchester United with an opportunity to claw back some points on those leading the title race.
