Sir Alex Ferguson to Explain Sale of David Beckham and Co. at Manchester United

Nick AkermanJun 8, 2018

Sir Alex Ferguson will explain his decision to sell Manchester United legends David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy in his upcoming autobiography.

The former Red Devils boss, who is set to release My Biography on Oct. 24, has suggested he will reveal all when his much-anticipated book finally drops, as confirmed in an interview with MUTV and reported by ESPN:

"

You know the problem with doing a book is you have to bring in the elements and factors which in many ways either affected or determined your management decision-making.

Why we sold certain players like David Beckham and Ruud van Nistelrooy. You can't ignore these things because these guys were big, big figures in Manchester United's career history.

Ferguson is notorious for installing a "nobody bigger than the club" mantra at Old Trafford, an attitude that ushered the likes of Beckham, van Nistelrooy and Jaap Stam out the door before their best playing days were over.

The iconic Scotsman infamously punted a football boot towards Beckham in a fit of frustration after United lost 2-0 to Arsenal in 2003, an event that left the English superstar sporting a nasty cut above his left eye. He moved to Real Madrid the following summer.

Van Nistelrooy also joined Los Blancos after falling out with Ferguson. Although the Dutchman ended his United career in disgust after being benched in favour of Giuseppe Rossi, he recently revealed Ferguson was correct to dump him, per Simon Stone of the Daily Mail.

"That is all credit to him. In his mind, the club is the most important thing. That is what he always said. It is his most-repeated sentence."

Ferguson's book is expected to cover a wide range of topics, including details surrounding his relationship breakdown with Wayne Rooney and the difficult decision to retire, per ESPN's report.

Manchester United are currently eighth in the Premier League after taking a measly 11 points from eight Premier League games since Ferguson's departure.

David Moyes, the legendary manager's successor, continues to face stern criticism and has had to defend his failure to significantly bolster the squad's ranks during the summer transfer window, per Metro.

He has also come under fire for his willingness to deploy negative tactics at a club that is famed for attacking football. Alan Hansen of Independent.ie has been one such critic.

Although Ferguson continues to oversee Manchester United from a director's role, this season looks set to be a long one for the Premier League champions.
