5-Star Jabrill Peppers and the Top Recruits to Watch on ESPN Friday Night
Jabrill Peppers, a 5-star prospect, is one of the best overall high school football players in the nation. His amazing talent will be showcased Friday night on ESPN2, as Don Bosco Prep (New Jersey) will play Peppers' Paramus Catholic (New Jersey) team at 8 p.m. EST.
Peppers is an elite recruit, but he is not the Paladins' only talented college prospect. Paramus Catholic has a talented roster that features several other players you should know about. However, Don Bosco Prep counters with several recruits of its own, as the Ironmen are coming into this game looking to pull out a big win.
With so many great players on both teams, the top recruits playing in this game all warrant a closer look.
Kevin Feder, OT—Don Bosco Prep (2015)
1 of 12
At 6'9" and 255 pounds, it will be tough for Kevin Feder to go unnoticed on Friday night. He plays offensive tackle for Don Bosco Prep and mainly plays on the right side.
Feder, who is a junior, is already considered a high-end 3-star prospect. He shows good athleticism for his height, moves well when engaged with defensive linemen and can quickly shuffle his feet to move in space. Feder needs to add more bulk to his frame, but his size and athletic ability make him an intriguing 2015 recruit.
Miami has already offered, says 247Sports.
Daivon Ellison, CB—Don Bosco Prep (2015)
2 of 12Daivon Ellison is a 3-star junior cornerback that the Ironmen rely on to help combat opposing passing attacks. He's a scrappy defender, as Ellison is 5'9" and 175 pounds.
He has average speed but shows great short-area quickness. Ellison is solid out of transition and displays outstanding plant-and-drive ability. He plays with solid instincts, knows where he is on the field at all times and doesn't mind supporting the run.
Schools like Virginia Tech, Miami and Michigan are mentioned, via 247Sports.
Tom Sweeney, TE—Don Bosco Prep (2014)
3 of 12The Ironmen will feature 2-star tight end prospect Tom Sweeney in their offense on Friday night. Sweeney is nearly 6'6", weighs 220 pounds and can get the job done.
A Boston College commit, Sweeney has adequate quickness out of his stance. He isn't the fastest tight end in the country, but he can get up the seams to threaten linebackers and safeties. Sweeney displays good quickness to separate from defenders and has good hands to snatch balls with his mitts.
He's a willing blocker on running plays, as he defeats defenders by using his quickness to get in an ideal position to wall them off from the ball.
Tyrell Smith, OT—Don Bosco Prep (2014)
4 of 12
A talented offensive tackle, Tyrell Smith is one of the better players at his position in the Atlantic region. He can play left or right tackle due to his good athleticism, quickness, adequate strength and ability to bend naturally at the knees.
Smith, who is 6'5" and 265 pounds, plays with great agility. He can get out of his stance, use his quick hands to punch and counter defensive linemen and has no issues dancing in space. The 3-star blocker is tough in the running game and shows he has the ability to get to the second level to get a hat on linebackers.
Smith is committed to Virginia Tech.
Frank Nutile, QB—Don Bosco Prep (2014)
5 of 12The most important player for the Ironmen is 3-star quarterback Frank Nutile. He is a solid passer who has the skills to be a good starter in college.
Nutile, who is 6'4" and 200 pounds, has the height to see over the rush and keeps his eyes downfield. He has adequate quickness in his set up and delivery and does a great job of changing ball speeds with his throws.
Nutile can fire throws on a rope with solid arm strength but knows when he needs to pitch with touch. He operates with a poised on-field demeanor and does what he has to do to keep his offense on the field.
Nutile is committed to Temple.
Steve Shanley, QB—Paramus Catholic (2014)
6 of 12Paramus Catholic will hand the keys to its offense to 2-star quarterback Steve Shanley on Friday night. He is a 6'3", 205-pound passer with good mobility.
Although Shanley needs to refine some parts of his throwing mechanics, he displays solid arm strength. He flashes the ability to deliver accurate strikes to his targets, makes good decisions and will make a play or two with his legs.
Buffalo and Central Michigan have offered, according to 247Sports.
Terrence Harris, DE—Paramus Catholic (2014)
7 of 12
The Paladins have a strong defense, and one of the reasons why is because of Terrence Harris. The 2-star defensive end is tough, physical and sudden on the field.
At 6'3" and 250 pounds, Harris exhibits impressive first-step quickness at the snap. He can launch out of his stance to quickly jump on top of blockers and appears to love to beat offensive tackles with inside moves.
Harris has the ability to shuffle down the line laterally to pursue the ball and flashes good speed to chase from the back-side. He is committed to Iowa.
Billy Ray Mitchell, OT—Paramus Catholic (2014)
8 of 12
Billy Ray Mitchell will have a big impact on the game, as he helps anchor Paramus Catholic's offensive line. A 3-star prospect, he has the makings of a great swing-lineman in college.
Mitchell is 6'4.5", weighs 285 pounds and can play guard and tackle. He shows solid quickness at the snap, has quick feet and fights to keep defenders from getting under his pads. Mitchell flashes some pull/trap ability in the running game, plays with good leverage at the point of attack and has good awareness.
He is committed to Virginia Tech.
Tyrone Washington, WR—Paramus Catholic (2014)
9 of 12
Tyrone Washington is a receiver who is not dominant in one particular area, yet he grades out well in all important facets of the position.
A 3-star recruit who can also play cornerback, Washington has adequate speed and quickness. He is a savvy route-runner who changes speeds in his routes in order to separate from coverage. The 6'2", 180-pounder has solid hands, tracks the ball with his eyes and runs with deceptive power after the catch.
Do not be shocked if Washington develops into a solid No. 2 receiver. Nebraska and Rutgers are his top schools, says 247Sports.
Juwann Bushell-Beatty, OT—Paramus Catholic (2014)
10 of 12At 6'7" and 310 pounds, Juwann Bushell-Beatty is the top offensive lineman for the Paladins. He is a 4-star recruit who has a great set of skills.
Bushell-Beatty possesses good quickness at the snap, doesn't waste time when getting out of his stance and has great strength. He flashes the potential to be an excellent short-setter in the passing game, as he is capable of quickly ending a rush with his strong grab.
Bushell-Beatty is tough in the running game, can powerfully move defenders off their marks and has some second-level ability. Aside from center, he could play any position across the line at Michigan.
Jabrill Peppers, ATH—Paramus Catholic (2014)
11 of 12The best player on the field on Friday night will be 5-star athlete Jabrill Peppers. His impact could be felt at running back, receiver, cornerback, safety and as a returner on special teams.
Peppers is a fantastic athlete who is 6'1" and 205 pounds. He is an intelligent player who possesses rare instincts, awareness, vision and anticipation on the field. Peppers has great speed, is stronger than his size indicates and has explosive agility.
He is committed to Michigan, where he will likely start off in the secondary. However, Peppers could play an array of positions before he leaves Ann Arbor.
