Netherlands vs. Hungary: Date, Time, Live Stream, TV Info and Preview

Richard LangfordOct 10, 2013

Netherlands doesn't have anything left to prove in qualifying for the World Cup. They're already in, but they are still battling to get into the top eight.

That cutoff is of vital importance, as it is the top eight that will be seeded for the tournament. Netherlands will continue their effort on Friday, Oct. 11, when they host Hungary.

For Hungary, this match is of vital importance. They sit in second in Group D, but have just a one-point cushion over both Turkey and Romania.

Top Storyline: Will the Netherlands regain its dominant form?

Led by the scoring prowess of Robin van Persie, the Dutch have enjoyed a wonderful run of soccer. That, of course, extends to the last World Cup when they reached the finals.

While the Dutch have cruised in qualifying, their last two outings have been a little sluggish.

They suffered a baffling 2-2 draw against Estonia and followed that up with a less-than-inspired 2-0 win over Andorra.

If the Dutch want to work their way back into the top eight, they can't afford any more lackluster efforts. While Hungary is a team the Netherlands should be able to handle, that doesn't mean it won't take a focused and crisp effort for the hosts.

Prediction

With Hungary battling to punch their ticket to Brazil, they will come out with great intensity. This will lead to the game being an early standoff. I wouldn't be surprised if this one went into halftime in a scoreless tie.

Still, Netherlands' talent will shine through and they will take control of this match as it progresses.

Score: Netherlands 2, Hungary 0
