Ian Wright Applauds Glenn Hoddle's Zapstarz Search for a Star Project
Ian Wright has applauded Glenn Hoddle's search for a new generation of football talent, and hopes one of the finds might make it all the way to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
England and Arsenal icon Wright also believes the FA should welcome Hoddle back into the fold, to tap into his vast knowledge of coaching and educate both aspiring and established England players.
On the subject of the Hoddle's search for future talent, through an exciting new project named Zapstarz, Wright told Bleacher Report UK:
"Wow, what a great idea. And coming from someone of Glenn stature—a legend in the game and a former England manager—this has to be worth doing.
When I played for England he was top man. I still call him 'gaffer'—he was the only England coach who actually coached the England players in the way the game needed to be played— and he was, of course, a top player himself, so he commanded respect from everyone
Now he’s giving kids an opportunity they would never have had, as they can send him their videos and he can see if they have something. If they do he will see it and improve it, so my advice to the kids is to send him your videos.
"
Wright continued:
"It is certainly a new route for kids to find out if they can make it at a professional level. Any route is a good route, and I speak as someone who made a very late breakthrough into the game. Countless times I'm stopped in the street and people ask me, 'how do I get into the game?' They’ve got a son, a nephew, or a brother they think might stand a chance, but they have no clue about how to go about it.
It's a lot to ask of Glenn and his coaches to see something in a kid in a 30-second video, but if anyone can, Glenn can.
I will keep my fingers crossed that Glenn finds someone who might play for England in the 2022 World Cup. You never know. I’ve no doubt it can happen. if anyone can make it happen it is someone of Glenn Hoddle’s stature.
"
