Celtic Close in on Coventry City Midfielder Gunnarsson

Andy MuirheadMay 17, 2009

Rumours persist down south that Celtic have made a bid for Coventry City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson, for around £1.5 million, with a move to be finalised when the transfer window opens.

The Icelandic youngster signed for the Sky Blues from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar on a three-year deal back in June 2008 and is regarded as one of his country’s top up and coming talents, earning three caps to date. He has played a total of 47 games this season for Coventry in all competitions, scoring just two goals and booked 12 times.

Gunnarsson would be seen as an ideal replacement with the likes of Paul Hartley, Massimo Donati, and Shunsuke Nakamura all likely to head out of Parkhead this summer, and with the Parkhead side looking to snap up Hamilton Accies midfielder James McCarthy to strengthen the Celtic midfield, it could pose huge problems next season for many SPL sides.

One specific trait that could cause huge problems in the SPL, is his ability of long throws, check out the youtube footage below:
