Lennay Kekua, Manti Te'o's Fake Girlfriend, "Died" One Year Ago Today

Tristan ThornburghSocial Media StaffSeptember 12, 2013

On September 12, 2012, Notre Dame LB and Heisman candidate Manti Te'o was coping with the death of his girlfriend, Lennay Kekua, just days before Notre Dame was set to play Michigan.

This was all, of course, before Deadspin broke the story of Kekua being entirely made-up last January.

A lot has transpired since: Te'o is now on the San Diego Chargers' roster, "catfish" is a widely known term, and Kekua even made it in Maxim's Hot 100

As expected, the internet was pretty hard on Te'o, and there were plenty of memes made his expense.

In case you somehow have not heard of any of this story or want to re-live it all, here's a full timeline of the events
