Goalscorers to Bet on this Weekend

Danny Welbeck

He isn’t renowned as a prolific goalscorer—in fact, quite the opposite—but Danny Welbeck has shown some excellent form early in the season. The Manchester United forward has taken advantage of Wayne Rooney’s absence with two goals in three games and currently leads the club’s top-scorer list alongside Robin van Persie.

While obvious bets will be placed on the aforementioned Dutchman, Welbeck has a huge opportunity to notch in front of the Old Trafford crowd against Crystal Palace. The powerful Englishman is well rested after missing his country’s crunch fixture with Ukraine in midweek and will be full of energy once the whistle is blown at the Theatre of Dreams.

Bets on Welbeck as first goalscorer have the potential to come in big if you’re willing to risk the funds. Palace have conceded four goals in three matches this season, two of which came in their only away match against Stoke.

Considering Mark Hughes' men are hardly prolific, Welbeck and Manchester United will fancy adding a decent total against the newly-promoted side.

Daniel Sturridge

Although he is struggling with injury, as reported by David Anderson of the Mirror, Daniel Sturridge remains Liverpool’s greatest threat while Luis Suarez serves his ban for munching on Branislav Ivanovic at the end of last season.

Sturridge has boasted extreme confidence, agility and finishing prowess this campaign, scoring the winner in all three of Liverpool's opening games to hand them a trio of 1-0 victories.

With this in mind, Sturridge to score and Liverpool to notch up another 1-0 win is excellent value at 22/1. The 24-year-old is prone to starting games with remarkable pace before losing bite after halftime, so it’s also wise to back him as first goalscorer.

The striker has continued to show Brendan Rodgers exactly what he is capable of, and his insistence on being quick off the mark should land punters a decent return.

Dimitar Berbatov

Martin Jol shouldn’t worry about Dimitar Berbatov’s lack of goals this season. The Bulgarian forward takes Fulham’s play to another level when he is in form, and after three matches without hitting the net, will be determined to open his 2013/14 account against West Brom.

Fulham have not scored in the first half this season and the visitors are yet to find the net at all. Taking this into consideration, Berbatov to score the only goal of the game after 46 minutes is a realistic bet with a large payout at 22/1.

The Cottagers are difficult to overcome at home and if Berba turns on the magic, they have an excellent chance of beating Steve Clarke’s winless side in what should be a hard fought encounter.
