Soccer Clothesline Is Extremely Effective, Unfortunately Illegal

Gabe ZaldivarJun 2, 2018

The clothesline is an extremely effective football maneuver we wouldn't ever recommend using.

The Big Lead brings us to a Brisbane Premier League match between Brisbane Wolves FC and Peninsula Power FC.

Wolves are off and running on the attack when Power FC defender Luke Gauci attempts to dispossess opponent Kado Aoci. Instead, Gauci nearly takes Aoci's head off.

Yeah, you can't do that.

After watching this short clip over and over, we have come to the conclusion that Gauci didn't mean to go full WWE on Aoci but just couldn't pass up the opportunity. It looks like Gauci steps in to get the ball and his arm flies up unintentionally.

Since his arm was there, though, why not just bring Aoci down with a thunderous shove?

At least, that's what it looks like. I look forward to you picking this play apart with me in the comments section below.

Taking second place in things that are awesome about this video is the announcer, who offers, "Solid challenge. I think there's an arm there."

You think?

While you might describe the challenge as "questionable," it's almost "perfect" in regards to Gauci's professional wrestling form.

Sure, he tries to make sure Aoci is fine after the play, but we know how he really feels.

Get him a menacing persona and we might have the WWE's next heel.
