Champions League Draw 2013: Picking Winners in Most Intriguing Groups
The UEFA Champions League draw had the world buzzing, so here is a look at what clubs will come out on top in the most intriguing groups.
Anything can happen, especially in the toughest groups, but some fans feel better than others after the draw.
Once again, there will be a "Group of Death." Other groups will be extremely competitive, and this figures to be filled with classic fixtures.
Here's the full draw for the Champions League, with a few predictions for the most intriguing groups.
Group A
Manchester United fans won't feel great about their club's chances unless a major move is made. Getting paired with Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayer Leverkusen and Real Sociedad will be a challenge for the Red Devils.
It's not the "Group of Death" that everyone feared, but it won't be an easy group to win.
United will be led by Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Shinji Kagawa. They have a ton of talent on their squad, and they will be looking to make a deep run.
Shakhtar Donetsk, led by Fred, are hoping to win the group as well. They look like United's biggest challenge. Getting Fred was a big move, and he could be a big difference maker in the Champions League.
Bayer Leverkusen could cause problems for the other teams, but they will have a tough time advancing.
In the end, United will come out of this group on top, and Shakhtar will be right behind the Red Devils.
Group F
This may be one of the toughest groups and will feature great fixtures throughout the group stage.
Arsenal, Marseille, Borussia Dortmund and Napoli make up Group F.
The Gunners are usually one of the clubs that will have no trouble making it to the next stage, but there are no sure things this time around.
Marseille and Napoli are tough outs. Napoli has no problem spending to improve their squad, which will make life difficult for clubs like Arsenal.
Unless the Gunners can make a big splash or two before Sept. 2, Borussia Dortmund looks like the favorite.
Robert Lewandowski and Marco Reus will lead Dortmund's attack. They are tough to contain by themselves, but Dortmund has a very talented squad.
Group F could wind up being the toughest group, but Dortmund will be the winner of the group.
Group H
For those wondering why Group F wasn't the "Group of Death," take a look at Group H. Barcelona, AC Milan, Ajax and Celtic will be competing to advance out of the group stage.
There is so much history in this group. Each club has won the Champions League before, and Milan's seven titles lead the way.
Group H has a pair of the top stars in the world. Lionel Messi has enough talent to lead Barcelona deep into the tournament. Mario Balotelli has Milan as one of the favorites to come out of the group.
Ajax and Celtic won't roll over just because they are in the toughest group. Each squad can compete with Milan and Barcelona, which could lead to a tight group.
Star power will be too much to overcome, however. Messi and Balotelli will continue their great play and lead their teams out of the group. When in doubt, go with the club who has the best player. Barcelona will escape as the winner of the group.
