Premier League Fantasy Football 2013-14: Top Player Picks for Gameweek 3

A WriterJun 8, 2018

So it's Gameweek 3 in the Premier League for Fantasy Football managers, and a lot of changes will have already been made as managers realize players who were good last year aren't that good any more.

With Chelsea and Aston Villa not playing, Chelsea players and Christian Benteke will have to be benched and/or transferred out to make full use of your squad.

But without the stress of having to choose a Chelsea forward, or choosing no Chelsea forward if you consider yourself the next Jose Mourinho, a new week means new choices.

Here are three players you should pick, and three you should avoid.

In: Jussi Jaaskelainen

1 of 6

Position: Goalkeeper

Club: West Ham

Opponent: Stoke City

Fantasy Price: £5.5m

Jussi Jaaskelainen has two clean sheets in two games and, at £5.5 million, is a very good choice for goalkeeper this week. Especially if your first-choice cheap keeper, Ben Foster for example, has become injured.

With Stoke having only scored more than one goal four times in the last 20 games, and having scored zero nine times in that same period, a clean sheet looks more than possible for Jaaskelainen this time around.

In: Michu

2 of 6

Position: Midfielder

Club: Swansea

Opponent: West Brom

Fantasy Price: £9.0m

Michu hasn't scored for Swansea yet, but this may be the week his preseason form turns into in-season results.

Granted, West Brom have only conceded once in their first two EPL games, but Swansea looked dangerous on the attack against both Manchester United and Tottenham.

When they got the chance.

Playing a team suffering from Lukaku-less-fever (a real thing), this could be the game for Swansea to get their first win of the season.

And when Swansea score, it's usual for Michu to have a helping hand in that if last season is anything to go by.

In: David Silva

3 of 6

Position: Midfielder

Club: Manchester City

Opponent: Hull City

Fantasy Price: £9.3m

Let's be honest, the loss to Cardiff City was a blip in the usually dominant City's results. And they will be looking to avenge their frustrations on Hull come Saturday.

If you could pick 11 players from the same team, I would suggest they all be from Manchester City this week. But you can't, and so the best pick has to be David Silva.

Always looking to create goals as well as scoring them himself (as proven by the 14 points he has already picked up this season), Silva is a good bet to get the better of Hull this weekend.

Out: Edin Dzeko

4 of 6

Position: Forward

Club: Manchester City

Opponent: Hull City

Fantasy Price: £7.7m

This could be a risky move, but Edin Dzeko has not impressed new manager Manuel Pellegrini so far according to the Daily Mail.

Pellegrini has said if Dezko doesn't start scoring, he'll be on his way out of the Etihad.

Yes, Dzeko scored last week, but so did Alvaro Negredo, and the manager may give the Spanish striker a chance as a starter against Hull on Saturday.

Or Pellegrini could of course stick with the Bosnian and he could score a hat-trick, but Negredo's goal-to-minute ratio at City in the league so far is one in-31.

Dzeko's ratio is one in 251.

You do the maths.

Out: Arouna Kone

5 of 6

Position: Forward

Club: Everton

Opponent: Cardiff City

Fantasy Price: £6.8m

The ex-Wigan man has had very little playing time since joining Everton, only coming on as a late second-half substitute in both their Premier League games.

However, he was given a chance against Stevenage, but his only one great opportunity saw him miss the goal from two yards out.

Barcelona loanee Gerard Deulofeu looked like an exciting prospect in midweek (hardly surprising given that he is just that: a Barcelona loanee) and scored the equalizer for Everton.

If Roberto Martinez chooses to switch up his attacking lineup against Cardiff, it may well be the Spaniard who gets the nod over Kone this week.

Perhaps the Ivorian needs to die his hair blonde again. Perhaps that was the source of his magic powers. Perhaps.

Out: Kolo Toure

6 of 6

Position: Defender

Club: Liverpool

Opponent: Manchester United

Fantasy Price: £5.0m

Kolo Toure has ruined fantasy teams across the land by getting injured against Notts County in the Capital One Cup in midweek.

A popular pick at such a low price and in a team who have already had two clean sheets, Toure is in 10.1 percent of fantasy squads according to the official FPL website, and despite playing Manchester United Toure would have been a sure starter in many manager's minds.

But with the defender looking a major doubt for Sunday according to the Liverpool Echo, it may be worth having a backup ready and waiting in your team.

Perhaps a Manchester City one?
