Soccer Player Misses Wide Open Goal, Suffers the Consequences

Sometimes, there does indeed seem to be a certain balance that must be kept on the field, and when someone disturbs the "beautiful game" with ugliness, that person will be punished.

Little is known about this particular soccer match, except that a certain player let an easy goal get away from him and was immediately repaid for the error. 

The player in question was a striker who received a clean, low cross directly in front of the goal and kicked the ball into the only area that wasn't a wide-open net.

The shot was straight at the goalie, who—to his credit—did appear to make a remarkable save. It’s unclear whether the shot was heading directly at the 'keeper, but it was close enough for him to block with his leg.

The soccer gods—or whatever karmic forces were at work—were not pleased by this squandered opportunity, and a scant two seconds passed before the universe responded to the affront.

Balance was restored in the form of a wild strike—if it can even be called that—from one of the player’s teammates, who attempted to put a shot on goal off the rebounding ball.

“Gruesome” doesn’t even begin to describe this attempt. The ball sprayed wide right, nailing the striker in the face. In three seconds, the team in the white and blue ended up with two missed strikes, a headache and a loss of possession. 

Let's just chalk this one up as a mulligan, boys.
