England Premier League Betting Odds: Chelsea Favored vs. City, Man United
Manchester United is the defending EPL champion, but just the third betting choice on Premiership future odds posted this week.
David Moyes takes over at Man United (+260) for the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson as the squad aims for a sixth English title in eight seasons. This has not been the best offseason, as rumors have swirled all summer that Rooney is not happy and may be out the door.
And Manchester City - champions in 2011 - made plenty of big moves, spending more than 100 million Euros on four players alone.
But it's Chelsea (at +220) with the best odds to win the EPL on the eve of the season, according to OddsShark.com. With Jose Mourinho back in charge of the Blues and with rumors of Wayne Rooney joining Chelsea, they are slight favorites over Man City (+225).
Chelsea has looked great as the season approaches and the signings of André Schürrle and Romalu Lukaku were good ones. Striker Andre Schurrle also joined the London side from Bayer Leverkusen for a fee of 22 million Euros.
Will this be the season that Fernando Torres is one of the league leaders in goals? Can Mourinho work his magic once again? These are the big questions for Chelsea this season as they battle with the Manchester sides.
Manchester City (+225) has a new manager in Manuel Pellegrini and they were busy in the offseason bringing in Jesus Navas, Steven Jovetic, Alvaro Negredo, and Fernandinho. Carlos Tevez has to be happy that Roberto Mancini is no longer at the helm, since the two clashed often.
Man U was set to make a big bid for Cesc Fabregas and that signing would be huge. Still, with all that has gone, they still are the defending EPL champions and Robin Van Persie will still be roaming at Old Trafford.
Arsenal (+1050) has no big gun up front and, while they have tried for the whole summer to get Luis Suárez, it has not happened yet. Paulinho and Nacer Chadli were solid additions to the Gunners, but manager Arsen Wenger really wants a big-time goal scorer and that may not come to fruition.
After Arsenal at +1050, the odds drop off precipitously. And for good reason. No team outside the top four have won the EPL crown since Blackbrun in 1994. The next club with the best odds is Liverpool at +3250.
Liverpool has long shot odds, but while they will likely lose Luis Suárez, the Reds have made some great offseason moves bringing in Lago Aspas, Kolo Touré, Luis Alberto and GK Simon Mignolet, who is one of the best young keepers in the world.
For Tottenham (+3500), the big question involves Gareth Bale—will he remain on the squad? If he is dealt, the Spurs do not have much of a shot at the EPL title. However, they did bring in Roberto Soldado from Valencia and he is a solid striker.
Everton (+4500) is a perennial Top Eight team in the EPL tables, but they simply do not have the talent to win it all. Marouane Fellaini was the only player for Everton that scored in double digits last season and the squad did not make any big offseason moves.
