Preseason Friendlies Wrap: Saturday, July 27
Saturday saw some of the biggest clubs in Europe take another step in their preparations for the upcoming season.
Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester City and Barcelona were some of the big names in action.
Here is a wrap of the day's preseason friendlies, with match reports for the pick of the games.
PSG 0-1 Real Madrid
1 of 6Gothenburg played host to the most eagerly anticipated preseason friendly, Saturday.
Big-spending Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid clashed, with the latter emerging victorious thanks to a first half Karim Benzema strike.
Mesut Ozil provided a neat pass, before the Frenchman curled a well-placed shot into the bottom corner of Salvatore Sirigu's net.
It was Ozil who outshone fellow Galacticos Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco on the day, proving a creative force in attacking midfield.
PSG's best chances both fell to Ezequiel Lavezzi in the first half, but the Argentine winger could not capitalise.
Manchester City 1-0 Sunderland
2 of 6Two Premier League clubs clashed Saturday in a match played in torrid conditions in Hong Kong.
Manchester City squeezed past Sunderland 1-0 to claim the Barclays Asia Trophy.
Edin Dzeko was the hero for the Blues, scoring a technically perfect volley after only nine minutes of play.
New signings Alvaro Negredo and Jesus Navas played for Manuel Pellegrini's side, while Sunderland boss Paolo Di Canio gave starts to new recruits Emanuele Giaccherini and USA international Jozy Altidore.
The game was not of the highest quality; though, the poor conditions will take the majority of the blame for this.
Valencia 1-2 AC Milan
3 of 6AC Milan claimed an impressive preseason win at the Mestalla, home of La Liga side Valencia, on Saturday.
The 2-1 win was the opening fixture of the Guinness Champions Cup, a competition that also contains the teams Chelsea and Internazionale.
First half strikes from Robinho and Nigel de Jong proved the difference, despite Parejo pulling one back in the second period for the home team.
Cristian Zaccardo made a crucial late block to deny a goalbound Sofiane Feghouli effort.
Valerenga 0-7 Barcelona
4 of 6For Norwegian side Valerenga, results do not come much more embarrassing than a 7-0 loss.
Unsurprisingly, it was Barcelona racking up the impressive tally in Oslo on Saturday.
Alexis Sanchez, Cristian Tello, Lionel Messi, Jonathan Dos Santos, Jean Marie Dongou (two) and Joan Angel Roman were the players who etched their names on to the scoresheet.
The Cameroonian Dongou's second half brace will give fans of the Blaugrana hope that the physical forward could be a future great at the Camp Nou.
Hamburger SV 1-1 Internazionale
5 of 6Internazionale had been in blistering form heading into Saturday's preseason friendly with Hamburger SV.
Unfortunately for the Serie A side, they could not maintain their perfect record, drawing with German club Hamburger SV.
Mauro Icardi scored for Inter after only a couple of minutes, but striker Artjoms Rudņevs hit back not long after halftime.
Following a dire 2012/13 campaign, Inter will be hoping to carry this momentum into the new season.
