Gold Cup 2013 Schedule: When and Where to Catch Day 2 Action

Joseph ZuckerJun 8, 2018

The 2013 Gold Cup gets back in action on Monday night as four countries will be looking to start off the group stage on the right foot.

The football wasn't the most entertaining on Day 1, but it did provide some surprising upsets. Few could have predicted that Canada and Mexico would both lose, and look rather poor in doing so.

While Day 2 doesn't feature the same kind of star power, there will be plenty of good storylines to watch and big-name players involved.

Of the three groups in the Gold Cup, Group B definitely looks the most up for grabs. The teams that can get three points put themselves at a major advantage. Picking up a loss doesn't eliminate a team from advancing completely, but it makes the road much harder.

Here's the schedule for Day 2 and a player to watch in each match.

El Salvador vs. Trinidad and Tobago

Kenwyne Jones, Trinidad and Tobago

No player on Trinidad and Tobago is more known that Kenwyne Jones. He's spent the last six seasons in the Premier League with Sunderland and Stoke City. In 177 appearances, Jones has scored 39 goals and added 21 assists.

Unfortunately for Trinidad and Tobago, that scoring form hasn't carried over to the national team, as Jones has only scored four times in 22 appearances for his country.

Jones clearly has quality, but he's often gone on major dry spells with his club team. He can't afford to do that with Trinidad and Tobago in the Gold Cup.

They qualified for the 2006 World Cup, but it's been downhill since then, as Trinidad and Tobago was knocked out in the fourth round of qualifying in 2010 and then in the second round of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

Jones has talent enough to help see Trinidad and Tobago through to the knockout stage.

Haiti vs. Honduras

Andy Najar, Honduras

Andy Najar is one of the more promising players in the entire region. He's been a key player for DC United over the past couple of seasons and has parlayed that into a move to Anderlecht.

Najar is a very good, pacy creator out wide. In 82 MLS matches, he had 10 goals and nine assists. He's yet to have the same kind of impact for Honduras, only making six appearances.

The Gold Cup is the perfect opportunity for Najar to emerge as a vital part of the national team. He hasn't had this kind of run in the team before. Group B doesn't feature any major powerhouses of CONCACAF, so Najar has a less pressurized situation against some beatable opposition.

It's all set up for Najar to have a huge Gold Cup. That will start against Haiti.
