Brazil vs. Uruguay: Key Players for Each Side in Confederations Cup Clash

Rob GoldbergJun 26, 2013

Brazil and Uruguay will battle for a spot in the Confederations Cup final in a match that will be decided by the performances of key players.

While a squad like Spain relies on the overall contributions of the midfield to control possession and work for an opportunity when it comes, both of these squads showcase the ability to score when you least expect it.

There are a number of players on each side capable of scoring in a heartbeat, which will make this match thrilling to watch for all 90 minutes and possibly beyond.

For those following along, here are players to keep an eye on in this competitive battle.

Neymar, Brazil

While fans were aware of Neymar's ability before the Confederations Cup began, few had actually seen him play. This has made his performance in the first three matches even more impressive.

So far, Neymar has three goals and an assist, each of them were fantastic displays of the young player's pure skill with the ball.

The attacking midfielder can create opportunities for himself and others near the net, and his contributions are what has made Brazil so successful in this tournament. If he keeps it up, the squad will be extremely tough to beat.

Oscar, Brazil

The fact that Neymar is playing so well at only 21 years old is impressive, but it is important not to overlook Oscar. The midfielder is the same age and has been playing at a high level all year long.

With Chelsea, the young player showed an ability to make great passes, as well as beat defenders off the ball to give himself a chance to score. This has continued during international play with Brazil, although he is yet to get a goal in this tournament.

Still, it would not be surprising if Oscar was able to make an impact with at least one goal in this matchup.

Luis Suarez, Uruguay

Despite coming on in the 68th minute against Tahiti, Luis Suarez scored two goals in the 8-0 win.

While things will be much tougher against Brazil, the forward has shown the ability to score against some of the best opponents in the world. With Liverpool this past season, he finished second in the EPL with 23 goals.

Suarez might have limited chances in this one, but he can make the most out of these chances. If he can get a goal or possibly more, Uruguay has a chance to win this match.

Edinson Cavani, Uruguay

With the way Brazil can threaten offensively, this match has the potential to be very high scoring. This means that Uruguay might need more than just Suarez to come through.

There are a few players who can help out on the offensive end like Diego Forlán and Abel Hernandez, but Edinson Cavani has the most natural talent of the bunch. Unfortunately, he has not done much so far at the Confederations Cup besides be called for offsides.

Cavani has to be productive in this heated battle, or else the team will be too easy to defend.
