World Football Instagram Highlights of the Week

Mikhail TurnerJun 8, 2018

Pictures are readily available in this media-driven age, and photo-sharing site Instagram provides us with some highlights from world football this week.

Virtually all the highlights come from this weeks Confederations Cup action. Some of it on the pitch and some of it off.

These pictures are highlighted for a number of reasons. The powerful moment they capture, the people in the picture, or that they were just great photos.

Here are the World Football Instragram Highlights of the Week.

Two Midfield Legends

1 of 5

There's nothing like a picture with two greats standing side-by-side. That's exactly what we have here.

Hidetoshi Nakata and Andrea Pirlo are the players in question, one who retired prematurely, and one who has seemingly gotten better with age.

The two got together for a picture, mostly likely before their respective nations played out a thrilling game.

Spanish Domination Continues

2 of 5

This picture captures another great moment for Spanish football, as Spain defended their 2011 UEFA European U-21 Championship with some style.

There were key performers of the highest quality throughout the tournament, and they all showed that the future is still very bright for Spain.

Many of the players in this picture will continue on to play a major role with the senior side.

Tahiti Celebration Brings Smiles

3 of 5

Tahiti's row-boat celebration against Nigeria had to bring smiles to spectators.

The tournament minnows executed a set-piece and got on the scoresheet, making the score 3-1 with over 30 minutes to play.

Whether or not they thought they would get back into the game is another matter, but Tahiti celebrated with joy over a deserved effort.

Great Shot of Neymar's Sweet Strike

4 of 5

Neymar has scored two brilliant goals so far in the Confederations Cup, and we're given a great picture of his second goal here.

You can see the concentration and focus from the Brazilian star, as well as how quickly the ball is flying off his boot.

Action shots like this are always great, and they're even better when you know that the result was something special.

Howard Webb's face in the background adds some humour.

Consolation

5 of 5

This picture has to evoke some sort of reaction from viewers.

The emotion on the face of Tahiti goalkeeper, Mikael Roche, makes for a powerful image, which is only enhanced by David Villa's effort to console him.

Tahiti tried hard during their first two games, but the results were as expected in the end.

No goalkeeper would like to have 10 goals scored against them, especially when he made a good number of saves throughout, and it was good of Villa to make that gesture.
