Tahiti vs. Nigeria: Live Stream Info for Confederations Cup Match

Mike HoagJun 6, 2018

So far the favorites have all come out on top at the 2013 Confederations Cup in Brazil.

We’re just three games into the fold as Tahiti and Nigeria prepare to compete for the first time in the tournament. Scoring three points for either nation would be a huge step forward to qualifying for the knockout stage.

Spain figures to go unchallenged on their quest to add another prestigious title to their growing collection. That makes this fixture vital for both sides.

Can the young OFC Cup champion Tahiti squad surpass low expectations with a good showing at their first Confederations Cup appearance? Or will Nigeria’s experienced club hold off Tahiti's bid to make a statement in Brazil?

One thing is certain in this one: The odds are definitely stacked against Tahiti. Bet Fair Sports put the sizable disparity between these two clubs into context on Twitter:

Take a look at a preview and prediction of today’s Group B match as well as some information about where and when to view the live stream of the action.

When: Monday, June 17, at 3 p.m. ET

Where: Estadio Governador Magalhaes Pinto, Belo Horizonte, Brazil

Watch: ESPN

Live Stream: ESPN3

What’s at Stake?

The implications couldn’t be higher for both nations. Sides get just three chances to earn points, and only two of the four clubs will score an opportunity to advance to the next stage.

While it’s still early, three points in this one could be enough to secure a chance to do just that. Predictably, co-group favorite Uruguay accrued no points during their opening loss to the Spaniards.

In order to have a legitimate shot, one of these two sides needs to secure points before heading into matches against both of those excellent clubs.

Prediction

Just contending and turning out a solid performance would be a victory for the young Tahitian side.

But don’t tell them that.

"We won't have the same weapons, technically, tactically, and physically, but tomorrow, we'll certainly have the heart and that's our weapon - our heart and spirit,” Tahitian coach Eddy Etaeta said, according to Agence France-Presse reporting (via FIFA.com).

Nigeria are by no means a powerhouse on the FIFA landscape, but are playing at a high level, winning all six of their previous fixtures. They’re also coming off of a win at the Africa Cup of Nations, making contention at the Confederations Cup a reality for the oft-inconsistent national team.

The biggest advantage for the Nigerians is their experience. Around 90 percent of the club plays abroad, according to FIFA.com, and there are several veritable stars on the Super Eagles’ side.

Nigeria have also never lost a Confederations Cup match in regular time. Don’t expect that streak to change in their first fixture against Tahiti on Monday.

Prediction: Nigeria 3, Tahiti 1
