Dzeko's Hat-trick Keeps Wolfsburg on top of Bundesliga; Bayern Beat Gladbach

Ronaldo Assis de Moreira May 3, 2009

Wolfsburg 4 - Hoffenheim 0 (Bundesliga, May 2, 2009) After having been out of the goals for the past few weeks, Edin Dzeko made amends by opening for Wolfsburg against Hoffenheim in the 66th minute. Wolfsburg brilliant strike-force then paired up to add a second, Grafite doing well on the right-hand side and Dzeko storming in to score at the near post. And within a twelve minute spell the brilliant Bosnian completed his hat-trick, Edin Dzeko connecting with a back post volley to keep Felix Magath’s side in top-spot in Germany. Grafite added a fourth from the spot late on, Andreas Beck seeing red for his foul.

Bayern Munich 2 - Monchengladbach 1 (Bundesliga, May 2, 2009) Having fired Jurgen Klinsmann last week, Bayern took half an hour to break the deadlock against Gladbach with Bastien Schweinsteiger sliding home a brilliant Luca Toni cross to the back stick. Filip Daems had the visitors level with a penalty five minutes later, but Bayern regained their lead through Hamit Altintop’s ripper just before the interval.

Arminia Bielefeld 2 - Stuttgart 2 (Bundesliga, May 2, 2009) Stuttgart needed just four minutes to get their noses in front at relegation-threatened Arminia, Matthieu Delpierre nodding the ball over the line after an initial header from a corner had stuck the post. Chris Katongo pulled the hosts level on the half hour with a volley at the back post, but Bielefeld’s parity lasted just five minutes as Thomas Hitzlsperger hit a deflected shot that looped over the keeper from 25-yards out. Midway through the second half Vlad Munteanu brought Arminia level again with a penalty.

Schalke 1 - Bayer Leverkusen 2 (Bundesliga, May 2, 2009) Patrick Helmes fired Bayer into the lead at Schalke turning home a Castro cross through the legs of the Manuel Neuer in goal. Renato Augusto then added a well-taken solo second, working the space down the right-hand side before rattling a shot high into the keeper’s near post. Kevin Kuranyi netted a late consolation for Schalke.

Eintracht Frankfurt 0 - Borussia Dortmund 2 (Bundesliga, May 2, 2009) Dortmund recorded their sixth successive win on the spin, Mohamed Zidan grabbed the opener in the 80th minute with a late Habib Bellaid own-goal sealing the victory.
