USA vs. Belgium Live Stream: Online Viewing Guide to International Friendly

Ryan RudnanskyJun 5, 2018

Team USA and Belgium look to build momentum ahead of a string of World Cup qualifiers on Wednesday at FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland, Ohio.

USA will face Belgium and Germany before clashing with Jamaica, Panama and Honduras in World Cup qualifying. Belgium battles Serbia in June after its match with USA.

Several players will be held out for both sides due to rest and injury, but some formidable athletes will still be out on the pitch in Cleveland.

Players to Watch

Matt Besler, Omar Gonzalez, USA

Matt Besler and Omar Gonzalez combined to help USA shut out Mexico in August, opening eyes throughout the nation, even though it was a friendly.

Since then, USA has scored a draw with Russia while posting a 0-0 game against Canada in January. Given USA's reputation against world powers throughout the years, that is certainly a step in the right direction.

Besler said of his connection with Gonzalez, via ESPN.com, "The comfort level grows and grows every time Omar and I get to play with each other. I think we both get excited when we're playing next to each other. We feed off each other. It's almost like we challenge each other, but in a very positive way."

Of course, Belgium—ranked No. 15 in the world by FIFA.com—will be a challenge. The side is coming off a 2-1 victory over Slovakia in February.

Clint Dempsey, USA

Clint Dempsey's importance to USA is undeniable. In the 2011 Gold Cup, he registered three goals and one assist in six matches. In eight World Cup qualifying matches dating back to USA's 3-1 victory over Antigua and Barbuda in August, he's racked up seven goals.

The 30-year-old veteran posted seven goals and four assists for Tottenham Hotspur this past season in the Premier League.

Dempsey has noted the importance of building chemistry in these next two friendlies against Belgium and Germany before USA's next string of World Cup qualifying matches.

According to the Associated Press, via the Boston Herald, Dempsey said, "The good news is we have two games leading into the World Cup qualifiers. That's the most important thing, that we hit the ground running in those games."

Look for Dempsey to make an impact early. When he's on his game, he strikes quickly.

Thomas Vermaelen, Belgium

It's going to be interesting to see if Thomas Vermaelen can get back to form in international play. He had been steady for Arsenal before the 2012-13 campaign, considered to be one of the most reliable centre-backs in the Premier League, but he hasn't been as effective or consistent lately.

If Vermaelen can get back to prior form, he's going to make Belgium even more dangerous moving forward. His combination of quickness, power and ability in the air has made him a handful in prior years.

Expect Dempsey and company to test the 27-year-old defender on Wednesday.
