Transfer Rumors: 10 Deals That Would Change Next Season's Champions League
The end of yet another UEFA Champions League is upon us and with that comes the beginning of summer transfer speculation.
With financial fair play being a legitimate concern for clubs this summer, the big money transfer deals that we have seen in the past may not be seen as much this summer.
However, that does not mean some of the game's best players will not be on the move.
Here is a look at 10 rumored transfers that would change the results of next season's UEFA Champions League.
Mario Gotze to Bayern Munich
1 of 10Let's start this slideshow with one of the rumored deals that has already been done according to numerous sources.
The Guardian were just one of the many major media outlets that said last week that the Borussia Dortmund and Germany star, Mario Gotze, will be on his way to join Pep Guardiola's Bayern Munich in the summer.
Gotze will most likely get a chance to win this season's UEFA Champions League with his current club against his new club on May 25 if the semifinal results hold.
As for next season, Gotze's abundance of talent in the midfield gives Guardiola yet another weapon to work with when he joins Bayern Munich in July.
Gareth Bale to Real Madrid
2 of 10Gareth Bale is on the verge of making the UEFA Champions League with Tottenham Hotspur but if his current club do not finish in the top four of the EPL, Bale could leave White Hart Lane.
Bale has been linked with Real Madrid for most of the season and the speculation was fueled even further when he acknowledged the rumors and did not commit his future to Tottenham earlier this week (via Daily Mail).
If Bale were to join up with Los Blancos in the summer, it would make them a strong favorite to win next year's edition of the Champions League as they would have Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo in the same lineup.
Radamel Falcao to Chelsea
3 of 10Since Didier Drogba departed Stamford Bridge last summer, fans of Chelsea have been hoping that their club would sign a prolific goal-scorer.
For most of the season, Chelsea have been linked with Atletico Madrid forward Radamel Falcao (via Daily Mail).
Everyone is aware that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is willing to spend money to improve his club and if they qualify for the UEFA Champions League next season, expect him to chase after the Colombian superstar.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to PSG
4 of 10One of the few under-the-radar signings that could be made in the summer that can affect next season's UEFA Champions League is the one PSG are rumored to make.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has lit up Ligue 1 this season for Saint Etienne and he is expected to make a move to a bigger club in the summer.
According to a report last month by Metro, PSG are the frontrunners for the signature of Aubameyang, a player who is also reportedly targeted by Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle United.
As for what to expect out of the 23-year-old Gabon international next season, he has scored 19 goals and recorded nine assists this season in 32 matches for Saint Etienne as they chase a Champions League spot.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Juventus
5 of 10Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a player that has been constantly on the move during his career and he could move away from PSG this summer with Juventus being interested in the forward.
Recent reports claim that Juventus will be going after Ibrahimovic and Liverpool forward Luis Suarez to form a a formidable attacking duo (via Daily Mail).
Ibrahimovic has played for Juventus in the past but most of the accomplishments he achieved in Serie A have been erased because of the Calciopoli scandal.
Zlatan could re-write the history books in Turin if he moves back to Juventus as the Old Lady of Italian Football are looking to win their first Champions League title since 1996. .
Mats Hummels to Barcelona
6 of 10Mats Hummels has been one of the best defenders in the world for a few years now and he may join the exodus out of Dortmund this summer.
Hummels has been heavily linked with Barcelona and he could help replace Carles Puyol at center-back for La Blaugrana (via Goal.com).
With Gotze already leaving the Westfalenstadion this summer, Hummels could end up being another member of the Dortmund core to depart during the offseason.
If Hummels were to leave for the Camp Nou, his presence would automatically improve Barcelona's back four and give them a potent partnership at center-back with Gerard Pique already at the club.
Robert Lewandowksi to Bayern Munich
7 of 10For most of the year it looked like Borussia Dortmund forward Robert Lewandowski was going to move to Manchester United in the summer.
Now it seems as though Bayern Munich will sign the Polish goal-scorer as they look to improve their already impressive squad (via The Guardian).
In the past week, Bayern have denied a link (via The Guardian) to Lewandowski but the reigning Bundesliga champions could easily lure the forward to the Allianz Arena, especially with Gotze moving to Munich already this summer.
Edin Dzeko to Borussia Dortmund
8 of 10Signing Manchester City super-sub Edin Dzeko may not seem like a big deal, but if you look at who Borussia Dortmund are about to lose, it could be a massive signing.
Dzeko has been linked with a return to Germany with Dortmund for quite some time now (via Sky Sports).
Dzeko has played in the Bundesliga before with Wolfsburg and he can be counted on to score goals in European play if Lewandowski leaves the club.
With Dortmund presumably in a retooling mode next season, adding a veteran like Dzeko to the starting 11 would calm down the nerves of fans of the club for a bit.
Andre Schurrle to Chelsea
9 of 10Another German club that could be in the news this summer is Bayer Leverkeusen.
Bayer Leverkeusen could end up selling forward Andre Schurrle to Chelsea to give the Blues another young goal-scorer.
If Schurrle were to join up with the Blues at Stamford Bridge, he would join an already potent attack that includes Oscar, Juan Mata and Eden Hazard.
The addition of Schurrle would surely help Chelsea cure their Champions League blues from this season and help them get back to the glory of the knockout round.
Edinson Cavani to PSG or Manchester City
10 of 10One of the best players available in the summer transfer window is Napoli's Edinson Cavani.
Cavani has been linked with both Manchester City and PSG, who are probably the only two clubs that can afford the Uruguayan (via Daily Mail).
If Cavani were to join either club, it would alter the power balance in the UEFA Champions League for sure.
If Cavani joins PSG, it would make the Parisians an early favorite to win the competition.
If Cavani joins Manchester City, it would give the Citizens a better chance of competing for the title.
