2013 NFL Draft: Bold Predictions for Day 2 of the Draft

Charlie PotterJun 3, 2018

The first round of the 2013 NFL draft did not disappoint, as trades and surprise picks were aplenty.

Now, in the second day, which consists of rounds two and three, teams will begin to fill out their roster based on what they need, instead of snatching the best available player. They will be sticking to their scouting reports in order to select the players that fit their system.

But that isn't to say that there won't be anymore surprises on Day 2.

Here are some bold predictions for the second day of the 2013 NFL draft.

Quarterbacks will steal the show

Only one QB was selected in the first round, and that happened at No. 16 when the Buffalo Bills chose EJ Manuel from Florida State.

With Geno Smith and Matt Barkley still on the board, teams with QB deficiencies will be scrambling over each other to snag a pocket passer from the college ranks.

Smith, Barkley and Syracuse's Ryan Nassib will be highly sought after, but don't be surprised if players like Arkansas's Tyler Wilson are chosen over the bigger names.

The Southeastern Conference will shine again

12 players from the SEC were drafted in the first round yesterday, and three of them were from the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide.

The SEC dominated the 2012-13 college football season, and so far, has done the same thing in the 2013 NFL draft.

With players still on the board like Alabama's Eddie Lacy and LSU's Kevin Minter, look for the SEC to continue to conquer this draft.

Smaller schools will be well represented

Central Michigan's Eric Fisher was chosen with the No. 1 overall pick yesterday, making him the highest-drafted MAC player in the history of the conference.

There are still elite prospects from smaller schools left on the board, like FIU's Jonathan Cyprien, and teams will start to choose players from unfamiliar institutions over well-known conferences in the later rounds of the draft.

Manti Te'o isn't drafted until the 40s

Te'o didn't hear his name called on the first day, and that might come as a shock to a lot of people. But the stink around Te'o's fake girlfriend and his poor combine numbers are why he's still available.

Teams don't want the extra media attention Te'o will bring with him, so they're weary of selecting him. But he's still a gifted athlete that can step in and play immediately for a team seeking a middle linebacker.

All the same, he will likely continue to fall until a mid-level team with veterans on the defensive side of the ball decides to use their pick on him. I predict he won't be chosen until the middle of the second round.
