5 Funniest World Football Stories of the Week

Mikhail TurnerJun 8, 2018

Football provides entertainment in all sorts of ways on the pitch, and there are some funny stories off it as well.

The Mario Balotellis of world football are fun to watch for a variety of reasons, but they aren't the only ones who can make us laugh.

Whether it's Sepp Blatter "resigning," arms being bitten or football teams returning to some surprising pitch issues, we've had some funny stories in world football this week.

Here they are.

5. Norwegian Club Side Preseason Slowed by Roadblock

1 of 5

Chris Wright from ESPN FC brings us our first funny story of the week.

Though you won't think that if you're a fan or player of the team in question.

Norwegian club side Ny Krohnborg IL returned to preseason and found themselves staring at a road covering part of their field.

Here's a breakdown of events from Chris Wright:

"

While the regional club were away on winter hiatus, the council pressed ahead with their plans to build a supply road to the new Krohn Minde psychiatric hospital on the campus of Helse Bergen University, which just so happens to be situated right next to Krohnborg's home pitch.

"

Doesn't seem like there's much love for football on that council.

This story would be higher were it not for the fact that this situation actually really sucks for the club involved.

One still can't help but to chuckle when you first see the headlines, the picture and read the story.

4. Patrice Evra Makes Fun of Luis Suarez

2 of 5

The fact that there's still no love lost between Patrice Evra and Luis Suarez is clear in times like this.

While the Uruguayan striker continues to tarnish his reputation, whatever's left of it anyway, and Liverpool's as well, Evra found time to make fun of him.

Amidst Manchester United's Premier League celebrations, Evra was tossed a fake arm and proceeded to fake bite it to mock the Liverpool forward (via the Metro).

It's a good bit of cheek there from the Frenchman, and one funny football story for this week.

3. Innovative Injury Care in Romania

3 of 5

The humorous on-field care on display here in Romania's fifth division makes it a worthy entrance for this list (via the Metro).

One injured player finds himself taken off the field in a motorized wheelbarrow, and the video is doing the rounds on YouTube

Saying our red-shirted player is injured is a bit much though considering his antics in his "stretcher," but it makes for good comedy.

Someday, someday, one of Luis Suarez's victims will travel in one of these when a leg of theirs finds its way into the Uruguayan's mouth.

2. Sepp Blatter "Resigns"

4 of 5

Cybercrime isn't a laughing matter, well, except in this case.

The Syrian Electronic Army decided to shake things up in the football world by announcing the "resignation" of FIFA president Sepp Blatter via Twitter (per Goal.com).

Here's some of what Mr. Blatter had to say on his account:

"

So what if I took money from Qatari prince? I am the family's bread earner.

I have recommended his excellency prince Ali Bin Al Hussein of Jordan as my successor. The royal family has done much for Fifa, I am sure Jordan will make an excellent host for 2030.

"

Blatter's account wasn't the only high-profile twitter account to be targeted as the official World Cup account also weighed in on the matter (via Goal.com).

"

Sepp Blatter has been investigated for multiple charges of bribery. Emails between the Qatari foreign ministry and Mr Blatter were found to conspire against some teams.

"

Given the general feeling concerning Blatter's recent time in charge of FIFA, this story definitely created some laughs.

Luis Suarez Invited to Zombie Wedding

5 of 5

Who else would be No. 1?

Luis Suarez's chomping antics on Sunday got him invited to a Liverpudlian couples Zombie-themed wedding (via WhoAteAllThePies).

The wedding is part of a public relations stunt by gaming company Deep Silver, but it seems the couple decided to invite Suarez on their own.

Here's what Deep Silver's head of UK marketing had to say on the matter:

"

We understand those who have an appetite for human flesh like the zombie hordes found in Dead Island: Riptide.

With that in mind, we’d be delighted to have Suarez attend our zombie wedding… just as long as he’s aware that the bride and groom might bite back!

"

Wonder if they tempted Suarez with a special meal of Otman Bakkal neck slices and Branislav Ivanovic arm wedges.
