Kevin Reddick: Video Highlights for Former North Carolina ILB

James AdkinsJun 3, 2018

As inside linebackers go, North Carolina's Kevin Reddick is as good of a prospect as you can hope for if you're an NFL team looking for a solid producer in the middle of your defense.

Reddick was a solid player in his four seasons for the Tar Heels, including a senior season in which he posted 85 tackles and 6.5 sacks.

Like you would expect from a good inside linebacker prospect, Reddick's strength is his ability to diagnose plays and make solid plays against the run. Against the pass, Reddick is much better than you would expect at getting after the quarterback. That's a plus considering his abilities in coverage are average at best.

Here are five highlights of Reddick showcasing his skill set.

Slipping a Blocker and Stuffing the Run vs. Maryland, 2012

1 of 5

On this play, Reddick does exactly what you would expect of a good inside linebacker.

At the snap, he does a good job of recognizing the counter and then an even better job of slipping the block of the tight end who is trying to lead the way. Reddick's feet continue moving him up the field to meet the running back before he can get back to the line of scrimmage.

Sacking the Quarterback vs. Maryland, 2012

2 of 5

On this play, Reddick again shows his ability to make a blocker miss. However, instead of wrapping up a running back in the backfield, he puts the quarterback on his back for a sack.

Reddick's aggressive style was particularly beneficial considering the play-action to the running back. If the play would've been a run, he was in position to make the play. As he read the play action he was able to turn his sights on the quarterback and put him down for a loss.

Blitzing the Quarterback vs. Virginia Tech, 2012

3 of 5

One thing Reddick offers that not all inside linebackers do is his ability to blitz and get to the quarterback.

Playing a nickel linebacker, Reddick turns it loose from three yards off the line of scrimmage on this play.

In addition to getting to the passer untouched, his angle also made it impossible for the Hokie quarterback to step into his throw because Reddick got himself directly into his line of sight.

The result wasn't a sack, but a pass with no chance of being completed and quarterback flat on his back.

Form Tackling vs. NC State, 2012

4 of 5

One thing Reddick does really well is aggressively engaging the running back as he's entering the hole, like on this play against NC State.

While he does an excellent job of reading the hole and filling it, it's his technique on the tackle that stands out. Reddick gets low and throws his shoulders into the legs of the back as he wraps him up for a loss.

Fish out of Water in Coverage vs. NC State, 2012

5 of 5

An extremely aggressive player against the run and blitzing the quarterback, Reddick simply appears out of his element when asked to drop back into coverage.

This play is a perfect example of Reddick appearing to feel uncomfortable in pass coverage.

Responsible for the middle zone, Reddick doesn't get deep enough into his zone and loses track of where the tight end is. This result is a case of happy feet that essentially moves him from being in position to make a play on the ball, to an opening for the quarterback. If not for a drop by the wide open tight end, this could have been a huge play for the Wolfpack.
