Manchester City Transfer News: Updating the Latest on the Citizens
Manchester City will most likely fall short of the Premier League title this year. This could potentially trigger City to act during the transfer window (not that they have been quiet much before).
Although Roberto Mancini's men could walk away with the FA Cup, it will not be seen as enough.
This summer could see an influx of new players while some of the current stars look to head off.
Here is the latest transfer news surrounding Manchester City.
Mario Gotze is a hot commodity. Many teams are looking at the young German and would love to have him.
Manchester City is apparently in the running.
According to German publication Kicker via The Guardian's John Ashdown, Gotze's agent met with City's sporting director Txiki Begiristain in March to discuss the possibility of the 20-year-old joining the club.
Apparently, the two discussed the €40 million release clause that Gotze has under his current contract with Borussia Dortmund.
I find this rumor very difficult to believe. While Gotze is a fantastic player, I do not think he will be leaving Dortmund anytime soon.
With Pep Guardiola managing Bayern Munich next season, many Dortmund players want to stay at the club to challenge Munich. Especially since Bayern dominated the Bundesliga this season.
I expect Gotze to stay at Dortmund even though many teams are after him.
Will Sergio Aguero stay or will he go?
According to the Spanish website fichajes.com via The Express's Jack Wilson, Real Madrid is lining up a bid for Aguero. The bid is rumored to be about €45 million.
Aguero was bought from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Atletico is one of Real Madrid's main rivals. It will be interesting to see whether Aguero would accept a move to Los Blancos or if he will deny one because of respect for his former club.
However, this deal could happen. It's not a long shot, but I do not see City giving up Aguero easily.
John Cross of The Mirror is reporting that Liverpool is interested in defender Micah Richards. Aside from Liverpool, Arsenal, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly interested.
Richards has been injury-plagued this season and has rarely seen the pitch. However, he is believed to be nearing full fitness.
City is expected to put a £15 million price tag on Richards.
Richards is a product of The Blues' youth system and has been at the club since 2001.
I imagine it will be difficult to lure Richards away from City. However, if he cannot get playing time once he returns, Richards will most likely leave. Especially since there are many clubs after his signature.
Maher will reportedly be sold for around £15 million. Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham are also interested in the teenager, but it is expected he will choose City.
John Guidetti was rumored to be a part of the deal to get Maher, but this is not expected to occur.
The 19-year-old Maher has already made his debut for the Dutch national team and currently plays for AZ Alkmaar.
