Nick Florence: Video Highlights for Former Baylor QB
Many expected Baylor's passing offense to suffer with the departure of Robert Griffin III, but Nick Florence stepped in for him in 2012 and the unit barely skipped a beat.
The production from Florence was outstanding, as he threw for 33 touchdowns and 4,309 yards in Baylor's spread attack. As a dual-threat QB, he managed to rush for 568 yards and 10 touchdowns as well.
Having a high-flying passing offense in the Big 12 is necessary to survive. Florence helped Baylor maintain its reputation as one of the best passing attacks in the conference.
Here are the highlights of Nick Florence's productive career as a Baylor Bear.
Big Gain Through the Air
1 of 5Coming out of a spread attack, Nick Florence needs to show evaluators he can make vertical throws downfield.
On this play, Florence hits his stud wideout Terrance Williams for a big gain. He has all the arm strength, accuracy and touch needed to make a big-time throw 30 to 40 yards downfield against single coverage.
Florence will need to make throws like this routinely at the next level.
Showing off His Wheels
2 of 5The trend in the NFL is speed at the quarterback position, and Nick Florence brings an underrated ability to scramble for chunk yards.
Florence makes one read on this play and takes off for daylight against a Longhorns defense filled with speed. You can see the natural athlete Florence is on this play. He also has the presence of mind not to slide with his head leading forward.
The former Bear presents some ability to run quarterback option plays at the next level. His mobility is clear on this play.
Pump-Fake for a Touchdown
3 of 5The ability to manipulate coverage is essential at the next level. Nick Florence shows evaluators he can use a pump-fake to free his receiver downfield here.
Florence finds his go-to playmaker in Terrance Williams for six on this play. By using the pump-fake, he's able to loosen up the coverage enough to fit the ball in. The ball was placed on the sideline part of the end zone, which gave only his receiver a chance to come down with the ball.
Deep Strike to the Back of the End Zone for a Touchdown
4 of 5It takes a level of moxie to throw into double coverage.
Florence makes a gutsy throw to the back of the end zone toward what appears to be a covered receiver initially. The throw splits the coverage and ends up being a great play for Baylor. Florence's confidence to even attempt this throw is particularly impressive, almost as much as the execution of the throw.
The presence of mind to place the ball in the back of the end zone limited the possibility of the defensive backs getting their hands on it.
Touchdown off of Play Action
5 of 5With the aid of play action, Florence is able to find his slot receiver deep for a big score.
After reading the poorly executed zone coverage the defense presented, Florence found his slot receiver, who was able to get behind the safety help in the end zone for a touchdown.
Quarterbacks have to be able to capitalize on blown coverages like this in the NFL.
