Liverpool Transfer News: Making Sense of Brendan Rodgers' Andy Carroll Comments
Luis Suarez has been lighting up the English Premier League this season for Liverpool, and manager Brendan Rodgers is gaining confidence in the Uruguayan with each and every goal.
But that confidence in Suarez has seemingly transformed itself into a willingness to part ways with striker Andy Carroll, who has just five goals in 19 EPL appearances on loan with West Ham this season. Although he could make a return to Anfield, Carroll is bringing in big money, £35 million, and looks to be a poor fit with Liverpool.
Just ask the Reds boss.

Rodgers' comments on Carroll suggest that the 24-year-old forward will soon be on the move (via the Mirror's David Maddock and Neil McLeman).
"There is no doubt Andy has real qualities—some of his goals from set plays with West Ham have proven that. There is the financial aspect to it. He won’t be leaving on the cheap. With every player it is about the style, and how they fit into that. We are a team that is set up to exploit Suarez’s qualities, and he has flourished in the roaming role we have given him.
We are the second-highest goal-scorers in the league, so we have been able to score goals all season—and we are happy with playing around a talent like Luis. The club can’t have that money sat on the bench, in terms of what Andy cost and his wages.
"
Rodgers comments are spot on and are assisted by Suarez's incredible production this year.
When your squad ranks third in the EPL in goals scored (59 goals in 31 matches) and boasts the league's leading goal scorer, there's little pressure to bring in or hold onto top-flight striking talent.
As Rodgers points out, the Reds have their go-to superstar in Suarez, who has 22 goals in 30 EPL appearances, and simply don't need to keep Carroll around any longer for the sake of having a dangerous substitute at their disposal. Rodgers' comments certainly suggest a permanent move is upcoming for Carroll, and that Liverpool's money can be better spent, perhaps on the defensive side of the ball.
Whether or not he's bracing the fans for an upcoming transfer, simply giving an indirect pat on the back to Suarez or whatever else, Rodgers was wise to make those comments, and it's definitely hard to argue with the points he makes.
Suarez's style has fit seamlessly with what Rodgers wants to do at Anfield, and Carroll's hasn't. Add in the fact that Carroll is making a boatload of money in exchange for very little production, and you have the recipe for an inevitable summer transfer.
