Rutgers Confirmed for Future Schedule
It was a hot topic of conversation recently and today it is being confirmed by the Penn State athletic department. Penn State and Rutgers will play a two game home-and-home series in 2014 and 2015.
Penn State leads the all time series by a lopsided 22-2 tally, but with the recent resurgence in interest in Rutgers football as well as the increased battles in recruiting territory, all of a sudden this series has some new luster.
Of course it remains to be seen whether or not Rutgers will still be in their relative up swing by the time this set of games comes around. What is also interesting to me is that Penn State has agreed to a home and home series with Rutgers. I would have thought that Penn State would request, or demand, a two for one deal.
The first game of the series will be held Sept. 13, 2014 at Rutgers with the return game being held at Penn State on Sept. 12, 2015. My question is whether or not the Rutgers home game will actually be held at Rutgers' home stadium or if it will be moved to the new football stadium being built for the New York Giants and New York Jets.
Rutgers had recently took a stand against Notre Dame and turned down a home and home series with the Irish because Notre Dame was demanding the Rutgers home game be played in Giants Stadium.
Credit the Scarlet Knights for standing up for themselves. Keep an eye on the progress of the program because if Rutgers reverts to the classic Rutgers most people know, it would be interesting to see if they would want to move the game to the new football stadium for the Giants and Jets in an effort to bring in more Penn State fans.
Simple math will tell you that the following equation is a matter of fact:
The last time Penn State and Rutgers played was in 1995, with Joe Paterno getting caught on camera saying a naughty word to former Rutgers coach Doug Graber, who accused Paterno of running up the score. ESPN cameras caught the coaches exchanging verbal insults at the end of the broadcast.
Let the "rivalry" continue!
