Written by Gatorsfirst.com co-founder, James Brown.
We at gatorsfirst.com work hard to bring our readers the latest in sports news from around the Gator Nation.
We check all the news sites, regional and national, and do all the research for you, because we understand you're busy and don't want to be Internet geeks like us. So look for the Gator Nation Sports Page and stay current on the latest Gators sports news and sports opinions.
Here's some food for thought. What is a spread offense? Do we need to reevaluate Dan Mullen? Is the Florida-era Steve Spurrier gone?
And, yes, I am counting down the days until the College Football Hall of Fame moves much, much closer to me.
Lastly, check out the last four sports pages here: one, two, three, and four. Here's a baseball-centric one, closing the book on the basketball season and a Tebow-centric one. Check back later today for a preview of the Orange & Blue game this weekend.
Baseball
Just name it the Preston Tucker Award. Tucker wins SEC Freshman of the Week, again.
The Florida Gators travelled to Auburn this past weekend. After Auburn won on a walk-off homer Friday night, Florida responded with a mauling Saturday night and won the series Sunday.
No. 20 Florida travelled to Tallahassee to face No. 15 FSU Tuesday night. The Gators beat FSU, 10-2—the Gainesville Sun's take, Miami Herald's take, and Florida Times-Union's take.
Brandon McArthur was named a finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS award.
Recruiting
Gator baseball signee Patrick Schuster just threw his third consecutive no-hitter.
Our friend the BullGator notes Jaylen Watkins marks the 10th commitment of Urban Meyer's 2010 class. The ninth commitment, Gideon Ajagbe, could be the first Gator signee from Miami-Dade in five years. The 2010 class is getting crowded with defensive backs.
Here's the blog on Kenny Boynton.
Urban also reportedly offered a scholarship to a high school sophomore. It's actually the kid's 8th offer, which includes, UGA, GT, Bama, Clemson, Stanford, NC State, and UCF.
The DeShawn Painter decommitment is official, here is a blog on the situation.
Basketball
Joe Lunardi is projecting the 2009-10 UF will be the eight seed in the NCAA Tournament. Friend of Gatorsfirst Bull Gator disagrees and doesn't think we should even be projecting for the tournament—what do you think?
Allan Chaney will transfer. He is the fifth transfer in four years.
Speaking of Florida transfers, David Huertas has decided to forgo the rest of his eligibility at Ole Miss and begin his professional playing career in Puerto Rico.
Total Sports Domination
The No.1 Lady Gator Softball team shut out Kentucky to sweep a double header, and Player of the Year candidate Francesca Enea broke the UF career Home Run record, and is only a junior.
Softball star Stacey Nelson was invited to Team USA tryouts.
Volleyball swept their spring competition.
No. 21 women's tennis team beat No. 26 Alabama. And then beat No. 30 Auburn. The No. 10 men beat No. 15 Alabama, but then lost to No. 27 Auburn.
Professional Gators
Percy Harvin's failed drug test was confirmed by a second media outlet.
This means I may start to accept that it's true. It's still the only evidence I've ever heard of, as far as "character issues" for Harvin, which makes it ridiculous to read stories like this and this.
The Cowboys recently employed Tank Johnson, TO, and Pacman. Harvin won't be there at 51, anyway, they have the audacity to "take him off their list?" Do we know if the people in charge at Valley Ranch are smart enough to be doing this, hoping he'll slide to them?
At least with the "Harvin character issues" IRRESPONSIBLE REPORTING is starting to draw backlash like here and here.
Is there a Florida WR curse? Can Percy break it?
This Miami Dolphins draft article lists Percy as the third choice at WR.
Nick Calathes says he's ready for the NBA workouts.
Udonis Haslem will return to the starting lineup for the Miami Heat, once he's healthy.
Any thoughts?
