6 Most Unique Names in 2014 College Football Recruiting Class
We spend so much time talking about recruiting rankings, discussing classes, writing about coaches and also making predictions. Things can get pretty serious around here, can't they?
Let's take this time out to shake things up just for a short run here.
So let's go against the grain and do something light hearted.
For this piece, we're going to look at six of the most unique names in college football recruiting for this 2014 cycle. We're not making fun of anyone's name here, even my own last name is pretty unique and believe me I've heard many jokes.
The only goal of this read is to highlight the more unique names of recruits within this 2014 class.
This should be a fun, quick different type of piece.
JuJu Smith, WR/S
1 of 6Smith's real name is John, and when you think about it, there's been a gazillion "John Smiths" throughout history.
His nickname is "JuJu," and it's the name he seems to prefer.
Everyone refers to him as JuJu, and he's had the nickname for quite some time now. Some say he got it because he didn't like "J.J."
JuJu just stuck.
Whatever you call him, just know that the 6'1", 190-pounder is the top safety in the country per Scout.com but could also be an elite WR prospect too.
DeMarcus Christmas, DL
2 of 6Last year, the Seminoles signed a DL prospect with the first name of Demarcus, as in Demarcus Walker.
This year, they hold a commitment from another DL prospect with the first name of DeMarcus, but his last name is an interesting one: Christmas.
I'm sure Mr. Christmas has heard and continues to hear daily a ton of quips and one-liners about his last name.
But I would watch what you say to him as this is a 6'4", 290-pound beastly man.
Raekwon McMillan, LB
3 of 6If you're an old school Hip Hop fan, then It's obvious why McMillan makes this list. He shares the same name of Wu-Tang member "Raekwon," and it's not common at all.
The MC Raekwon is known not only for his membership in the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, but also for recording one of the best Hip Hop albums of all time: Only Built 4 Cuban Linx...
Raekwon, the LB prospect, happens to be one of the best players in the country and is a 6'3", 236-pound 'backer that will draw a slew of offers.
Budda Baker, DB/ATH
4 of 6Baker's real name is Bishard, but he's known as "Budda" and prefers you call him by his nickname.
Last April, Mason Kelley of the Seattle Times reported this on how Baker got his nickname:
""And that nickname? When Baker was born, his mother, Michelle, thought he looked like a "little Buddha doll."
The name stuck — minus the H."
"
Baker, from Washington, is a 5'11" ATH prospect who plays at about 175 pounds. He's got excellent play speed, instincts, quickness and agility.
Look for him to play in the secondary in college, to which he can pick among many offers.
Damien Mama, OG
5 of 6Yes, his last name is Mama and he's proud of it. If you ever meet this guy in person, then I don't think you're going to making light of his last name; Mama isn't a light man.
He's a 6'5", 350-pound OG prospect who has an offer from mighty Alabama among other schools. He's nasty, big, tough and strong as a blocker.
KD Cannon, WR
6 of 6When Cannon introduces himself or when people say his name to those who are hearing it for the first time, I'm sure there are a few that double take.
His name kind of sounds like a new camera, a new bazooka blaster, a super hero or a musical artist.
Cannon's an artist all right, an artist at the WR position.
He's the top WR in Texas this year and caught over 100 balls as a junior. He's 6'0", weighs 160 pounds and has great speed and outstanding hands.
His name is interesting, but Cannon's play on the field is dynamic.
