USC Fans Watch on As Quarterback Derby Heats Up
First of all, this is not really an article; more informal than anything.
Matt Barkley, Mitch Mustain, Aaron Corp. Three VERY good QB's, all with their own strengths...and weaknesses.
Matt Barkley (True Freshman)
He or Mitch Mustian has the strongest arm of the three. He's enrolled early at USC, and has a great chance at getting the starting job.
During USC's 87-play scrimmage on Thursday, MB went 10-13 195 yds, 3 TD 1 INT. Although he's doing great, I don't think Pete Carroll is gonna start a true freshman at QB.
But then again, this is Pete Carroll. He'll play anybody who'll help USC win.
Mitch Mustain (Redshirt Junior)
He is the only QB with real game experience of the three. While at Arkansas, in 2006, he was 8-0 as a starter, but it was McFadden who carried the offense, not him.
During spring football, his weakness has shown—turnover problems. He often forces things and unless he stops the INT's, I doubt PC will start a turnover hazard as a QB.
7-10, 42 yds, 1 INT were his scrimmage stats.
Aaron Corp (Redshirt Sophmore)
The most mobile of the three, and the possibly the early favorite. Corp went 8-15, 146 yds, 1 TD Thursday.
He has been mistake free so far this spring. He has the most balanced attack of the three, but he has no experience. Sanchez didn't have much experience last season either, and he went 12-1 (although he wouldn't have done that without that amazing D.)
So after all of that, my question is: Who will get the job?
Mine prediction as of now:
1.Aaron Corp
2.Matt Barkley
3.Mitch Mustain
