Wale's Feud with Matt Devlin Slightly More Famous Than Raptors vs. Wizards Game

Gabe ZaldivarJun 5, 2018

Wouldn't you know it? The NBA returns from the All-Star break and a kerfuffle between a radio announcer and a rapper breaks out during a Raptors-Wizards game.

CBS Sports broke down all the bizarre antics, which basically ended in more people breaking out their smartphones to Google search "Wale," the rapper in question.

It all starts in the second quarter of a game the Raptors would win, 96-88. Now, if you made it to the second quarter of this particular game, congratulations. You have an amazing attention span.

Here is video of the announcers spotting Rudy Gay coming down the court and mouthing something to rapper Wale:

That's when they try to fill some air time over a guy they have never heard of, ending with announcer Matt Devlin saying, "Wale's inspiring. And I'm sure somebody on Twitter can tell me exactly if they've ever heard of Wale. He's not Drake; that's for sure."

You could almost feel the wave of tweets that no doubt hit Wale's phone.

The Washington D.C., native rapper then fired off a tweet to the Raptors announcer, taking an odd moment with Gay and escalating it to a brewing feud with the broadcast booth:

Not content to let his name be involved in mere passing during the game, Wale made his way up to the broadcast booth for an awkward moment with the Raptors' play-by-play guy:

Alas, this was much ado about getting his name out there. As CBS Sports reports, this particular tweet now solidifies this bizarre moment as nothing more than a publicity grab:

Not only that, but it seems the impetus behind all this was just a couple of buddies jawing at one another, because Gay, as it turns out, is a big Wale guy
