Where Experts Predict Top 2013 Recruits Will Land on National Signing Day
National signing day is less than a week away, and we will soon find out where the majority of the top high school players will end up. After thousands of visits, rumors flying around, predictions and interviews plastered everywhere, the madness will soon come to an end once the recruits make their college decision official.
The little time left between now and then leaves an opening for final predictions. Experts put together scouting reports, heard the recruits speak several times and tried to gain any and all inside information possible. Not everybody will agree, but somebody will be able to walk away with bragging rights when the big day finally arrives.
Here are the experts' predictions when it comes to the top 2013 recruits.
Altee Tenpenny, 4-Star RB
1 of 11Altee Tenpenny recently committed to Alabama but also checked out his home school of Arkansas, and according to the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, he enjoyed himself. While he is still committed to the Crimson Tide, some believe he will have second thoughts and switch his pick once signing day arrives.
Scout Predictions: One vote for Arkansas and one vote for Alabama.
ESPN Predictions: No prediction.
Rivals Predictions: It is a dead lock with four writers picking Arkansas and four writers picking Alabama.
With a long line of running backs already fighting for playing time on the Alabama roster, Arkansas would seem like the most logical pick at this point.
MacKensie Alexander, 5-Star CB
2 of 11There was a lot of talk that MacKensie Alexander had already committed to Mississippi State, but those rumors were quickly shot down. The top cornerback prospect remains on the market and it seems like nobody can quite put a finger on where he will end up.
Scout Predictions: Both writers picked Clemson.
ESPN Predictions: Experts believe he will commit to Mississippi State.
Rivals Predictions: Predictions are all over the place in this one, as five guys think Auburn is going to be the pick, while Clemson receives two votes and Mississippi State has one.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Auburn.
The Bulldogs offer immediate playing time, but with Clemson and Auburn recruiting extremely well as of late, his best chance for overall success may rest with either Tigers' team.
Vonn Bell, 5-Star S
3 of 11Early on Alabama and Ohio State seemed the front-runners for Vonn Bell, but the home school in Tennessee has been making a strong push for his services. Recently enjoying a trip there, the Volunteers are a team that must be respected. Bell is expected to make a decision on national signing day.
Scout Predictions: Both writers have Bell going to Alabama.
ESPN Predictions: Bell is going to Tennessee according to ESPN.
Rivals Predictions: Tennessee has received four votes, Alabama has one and Ohio State has picked up three votes.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Alabama.
This is going to be an interesting decision, as it doesn't seem like anybody can read Bell well enough. However, I think it is safe to say that the Volunteers have the slight edge in momentum at this point.
Jalen Ramsey, 5-Star CB
4 of 11Jalen Ramsey has been committed to the USC Trojans since July of last year. However, he has lined up visits to schools such as Florida and Florida State recently. If Ramsey was to decommit from the Trojans at the last minute, it seems like the Seminoles have the best shot to land this talented corner.
Scout Predictions: USC has received both votes.
ESPN Predictions: No prediction.
Rivals Predictions: USC earned two votes, but Florida State gathered a whopping six.
The firing of USC defensive backs coach Marvin Sanders doesn't help USC at the moment. Florida State would also offer him immediate playing time and a chance to stay closer to his home of Tennessee. This one will come down to the wire.
Montravius Adams, 5-Star DT
5 of 11Montravius Adams seems to have trimmed his list down to Georgia and Clemson. The Tigers were the first school to extend an offer, but a recent visit to check out the Bulldogs has many skeptical about where he will actually end up.
Scout Predictions: One writer picked Georgia, while the other is siding with Clemson.
ESPN Predictions: ESPN has the top defensive tackle going to Georgia.
Rivals Predictions: All eight of the predictions have Adams ending up at Clemson.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Clemson.
It is clear that many are still on the fence when it comes to Adams. Some believe that the trip to Georgia was so good that he will become a Bulldog, while others think Clemson is the school he has been leaning towards all along. Whichever school he plays for will be lucky to have a dominant defensive lineman.
Matthew Thomas, 5-Star LB
6 of 11Much like the 247sports page of Matthew Thomas says, he will likely end up at Florida State or Miami. Alabama should not be counted out at this point, but most would be shocked if he doesn't remain in the state of Florida.
Scout Predictions: Both writers are split down the middle. One has Thomas going to Miami; the other has picked Florida State.
ESPN Predictions: ESPN has picked Florida State.
Rivals Predictions: All eight writers have picked the Hurricanes.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Miami.
When it is this close, you have to give the slight edge to the home school, which in this case would be the Miami Hurricanes.
Eddie Vanderdoes, 5-Star DT
7 of 11Eddie Vanderdoes decommitted from the USC Trojans and has since taken trips to UCLA and Notre Dame. He will give Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide a chance, as he visits with Alabama this weekend, according to 247Sports.
Scout Predictions: Both predictions were in favor of UCLA.
ESPN Predictions: Surprisingly enough, ESPN has picked Alabama.
Rivals Predictions: Five writers have picked the Bruins, while three others have pegged Notre Dame as the school of choice.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked USC.
Vanderdoes will make his decision on national signing day. He is expected by many to remain on the West Coast, but Notre Dame and Alabama remain the dark horses in this race.
Reuben Foster, 5-Star LB
8 of 11According to Mike Herndon of AL.com, Reuben Foster has trimmed his list down to Alabama, Georgia and Auburn. However, the votes are unanimously shifting towards only one SEC school.
Scout Predictions: Both Scout predictions have Foster going to Auburn.
ESPN Predictions: ESPN also has Foster becoming a Tiger.
Rivals Predictions: All eight writers have the 5-star playing going to Auburn.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Auburn.
Auburn has been the front-runner for Foster for quite some time. So while it comes as no surprise that everybody has jumped on the bandwagon, it would be foolish to count out Nick Saban, who has made an impact on the 5-star recruit.
Carl Lawson, 5-Star DE
9 of 11Carl Lawson has been an Auburn commitment for a long time but has been exploring his options throughout the recruiting process. While Auburn remains in the running, schools such as Clemson and Tennessee are the two that could pry him away from the Tigers.
Scout Predictions: One writer picked Tennessee and the other picked Clemson.
ESPN Predictions: No prediction.
Rivals Predictions: Six writers picked Tennessee, while two went ahead with Auburn.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Tennessee.
Lawson is expected to meet with Auburn this weekend, as he turned down a potential visit with North Carolina. This prediction remains a toss-up, but there is a good chance Lawson will remain in the SEC. The question just comes down to which team that will be.
Laremy Tunsil, 5-Star OT
10 of 11Much like Reuben Foster, it is a three-team race for offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil. The teams that seem to be battling it out for the 5-star recruit are Ole Miss, Georgia and Alabama. While you could make a case for any of those programs, all of the predictions like only one school.
Scout Predictions: Georgia gets both of the predictions for Tunsil.
ESPN Predictions: The Bulldogs are the school of choice.
Rivals Predictions: All eight writers picked Georgia.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Georgia.
Playing time shouldn't factor much into the decision for Tunsil, as he will have the opportunity to see the field immediately with any school he picks. He is expected to make his decision in the early morning of national signing day.
Robert Nkemdiche, 5-Star DE
11 of 11With Robert Nkemdiche, you never quite know what is going to happen. One minute it is Clemson, the next Florida and now the top overall recruit is checking out LSU. No matter what you hear when it comes to this recruit, you must remember that anything can happen. There is very little consistency when it comes to this 5-star defensive end.
Scout Predictions: Two votes for Ole Miss.
ESPN Predictions: ESPN also has Nkemdiche becoming a Rebel.
Rivals Predictions: All eight writers are on the Ole Miss bandwagon.
247Sports Prediction: Gerry Hamilton picked Ole Miss.
With as many times as Nkemdiche has bounced all over the place, Ole Miss seems like the most logical answer at the moment. He would be able to play with his brother and would be joining a recruiting class that has done surprisingly well.
Still, the ultimate decision for this elite recruit will be interesting to say the least.
