Who Should Every NFL Team Be Scouting in the 2013 Senior Bowl?
Every NFL team will come to the 2013 Senior Bowl with certain players they want to see. They know how the players have graded out, but the teams want to see how the players react when the light is brightest. They want to see them deal with adversity and learn from the coaching.
For the media, it is our first look at the players on the field against some of the best competition in the country. The Senior Bowl is an amazing event because of the talent that is on the field for teams, scouts and media to see. We get to see them practice, in some cases up close and personal. It is a fun event for all.
Make no mistake, this is a great opportunity for teams to get to know the players, on and off of the field. Let’s take a look at every NFL team and who they should be scouting this week.
Arizona Cardinals
1 of 32Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Nassib looks the part as an accurate passer with a quick release and the ability to spin a clean ball. He has all of the tools to be the best of this bunch of quarterbacks. Arizona's quarterback situation is horrendous and a new regime will likely want a new quarterback.
Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State, 6’5”, 232 pounds
Glennon is a developmental player, but there are a lot of things to like in his game. He is very raw, but he is a player with very good upside, and there is not a lot to like about the current Cardinals quarterback group.
Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan, 6’7”, 305 pounds
Fisher has the overall skills to become the second tackle off the board in April. He does a great job of protecting the pocket with his long arms and his elite footwork. The Cardinals hold the seventh overall pick and if there isn't a quarterback they like, they will select the second best tackle in the draft.
Atlanta Falcons
2 of 32Datone Jones, DE, UCLA, 6’4”, 275 pounds
Jones can make plays lining up in multiple positions and has great power and violent hands. He has a quick get off and nice ability to bend around the edge, even as a bigger player. The Falcons need to find a way to get more pressure from the edges of their defense and Jones provides that presence.
Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford, 5’11”, 215 pounds
Taylor is an impressive prospect with great size to anchor and help in pass protection and surprisingly light feet. He shows a nice burst and great skills catching the ball out of the back field. He would be a player that could take the reins from current starter Michael Turner and actually make plays in the passing game as well.
Baltimore Ravens
3 of 32Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington, 6’0”, 186 pounds
Trufant is a physically gifted cornerback who plays with a very physical nature. He can get out of his backpedal quickly to close on the football. His physicality reeks of a Ravens football player and he would fit their defense right away.
Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana, 6’0”, 185 pounds
Alford is easily one of the most agile, athletic players in Mobile. He can turn and run with his man, stop on a dime and change directions well. He also returns punts and kicks and is a tremendous asset in special teams. Alford's quick twitch athleticism and ability to cover are skills that the Ravens look for in a cornerback.
Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech, 6’6”, 322 pounds
Mills is a nasty, aggressive right tackle who can get to the edge quickly with his feet. He also holds up well against the bulrush as he shows great ability to sink his hips and anchor to swallow the rush. Mills would instantly add a "sandpaper" element to the Ravens offensive line.
Buffalo Bills
4 of 32Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Nassib is a hometown kid who can really play the position. He might be the best quarterback in the draft and the Bills are certainly desperate for better play out of the position than they have gotten from Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech, 6’2”, 200 pounds
Patton is an electric receiver who can do everything at full speed. He is a savvy route runner who can get open in a variety of ways. He uses his speed and quickness well and can run away from defenders. He would pair well with Stevie Johnson to make a pretty lethal combination.
Chris Harper, WR, Kansas Tech, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Harper is a bigger bodied wide receiver who compares to Anquan Boldin. He has incredible hands and the ability to run smooth routes to get open. He also has no problem making catches in traffic and would be a big weapon for the Bills opposite Johnson.
Carolina Panthers
5 of 32Kawann Short, DT, Purdue, 6’3”, 315 pounds
Short is a player who is position versatile as he can play all along the defensive front. He plays low and has great initial quickness to penetrate gaps. He can collapse the pocket and also has the quickness to pressure the quarterback from inside. The Panthers have a good group of defensive ends but need better play from the middle of their defense, and Short would instantly give them that.
Sylvester Williams, DT, North Carolina, 6’3”, 320 pounds
Williams is an impressive athlete who plays with a lot of power and quickness. He is also a gap penetrator who can help run defense immediately. He would add some skill and toughness to their defensive line.
Chris Harper, WR, Kansas Tech, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Harper is a player the Panthers could use opposite the speedy Steve Smith. He has a large catching radius and would help the accuracy of Cam Newton with his ability to catch the ball and make plays in traffic.
Chicago Bears
6 of 32Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6’6”, 303 pounds
Johnson is a tall, lean tackle prospect who can cover a lot of ground with his smooth athleticism and long arms. He needs to bulk up, but he is a very good player who can upgrade the offensive line. The Bears must add tackles that can help to keep Cutler clean, and Johnson is a player that can do just that.
Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky, 6’3”, 343 pounds
Warford is a monster on the interior of the offensive line. He displays a powerful punch and once he gets his hands and can lean on his man, the play is over. He would add some power and instantly upgrade the interior of the Bears offensive line.
Cincinnati Bengals
7 of 32Datone Jones, DE, UCLA, 6’4”, 275 pounds
Jones is a player the Bengals could use to add size and strength to the edge of their defense. He is a strong, physically dominant player.
Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford, 5’11”, 215 pounds
Taylor is the perfect addition to a power running game. He is really strong in pass protection as well, and he is a very capable pass catcher. He would give the Bengals a third down element they have been missing.
Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky, 6’3”, 343 pounds
Warford would add more power to an already strong running game. He is a massive interior lineman and a player that can handle himself inside.
Cleveland Browns

With a new front office there usually comes an new franchise quarterback. Nassib would be a great addition to the Browns as he can make all the throws that a franchise quarterback needs to make. He is ready for the NFL and could be the quarterback they build around.
Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State, 6’5”, 232 pounds
Glennon is player the Browns could draft and develop with their younger skill players. He throws a nice deep ball and would give them better long-term quarterback play than they have right now.
Chris Harper, WR, Kansas Tech, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Harper is a big wide receiver who would pair well with the more vertical Josh Gordon. He would be a great addition to the Browns passing attack.
Dallas Cowboys
9 of 32Kawann Short, DT, Purdue, 6’3”, 315 pounds
Short is a player that could help the Cowboys defensive interior. He can play multiple positions and would be a great addition as they move back to a 4-3 scheme.
Datone Jones, DE, UCLA, 6’4”, 275 pounds
Jones is another player who can make plays lining up in multiple positions. He would be another player that could help them transition to their new 4-3 defense, lining up at defensive tackle or end.
Denver Broncos
10 of 32Kawann Short, DT, Purdue, 6’3”, 315 pounds
The Broncos need to get better play out of the middle of their defense and Short would be a great start. He is a very explosive player who can be moved around the defensive line.
Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington, 6’0”, 186 pounds
Trufant is an athletic cornerback who displays very good agility. He closes well, can flip his hips and run with his man and will step up to help defend the run. He would be a nice addition to the Broncos secondary.
Detroit Lions
11 of 32Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU, 6’5, 275 pounds
Ansah is inexperienced as a football player but he can play in variety of ways. He has a unique skill set, and can pressure the quarterback and defend the run. He displays a great first step and is a long linear athlete with a surprising amount of power in the bull rush. The Lions will be in dire need of a defensive end come draft day and Ansah could be their guy.
Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech, 6’2”, 200 pounds
Patton is an incredible route runner with smooth athleticism. He could be deadly running underneath Calvin Johnson. The Lions will be adding wide receiver talent in the draft and Patton is exactly the kind of player they need.
Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State, 6'0", 182 pounds
Wheaton is another smooth, fluid route runner who has enough speed to force defenses to pay attention to him. Like Patton, he would be lethal running under Johnson, or lined up on the other side, keeping defenses honest in their coverage.
Green Bay Packers
12 of 32Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6’6”, 303 pounds
Johnson is a tall, lean tackle who has a very bright future in the NFL. He has a great body for the left side of the line and is a smooth, powerful athlete.
Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU, 6’5”, 275 pounds
Ansah is the type of player that could fit as an outside linebacker or a defensive end in the Packers 3-4 defense. He is naturally long and does a nice job of defending the run and getting pressure on the quarterback.
Houston Texans
13 of 32Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall, 6’2”, 206 pounds
Dobson is a vertical threat. He can physically beat the press and has good quickness to get out of his breaks to get separation. He has naturally soft hands and is a player that will beat defenses deep early and often in his career. He would be the perfect compliment to the aging Andre Johnson as Johnson is no longer the deep ball threat he once was.
Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech, 6’2”, 200 pounds
Patton is a player the Texans could line up opposite Andre Johnson and he could really open up their offense with his chops as a route runner and his quickness. He would be a nice compliment to the Texans offense.
Indianapolis Colts
14 of 32Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky, 6’3”, 343 pounds
Warford would immediately upgrade the interior of the Colts offensive line. He is a long-term fix at the interior lineman position.
Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6’6”, 303 pounds
Johnson is an athletic tackle who has a good frame for the position. He can add 15 pounds of bulk without losing any quickness and he is a potential long-term solution to the left tackle position for the Colts.
Jacksonville Jaguars
15 of 32Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Nassib is an accurate passer who would be the building block of the franchise. The Blaine Gabbert era had just started, but it is possible that with a new regime will come a new starting quarterback. Nassib is definitely capable of filling that role.
Mike Glennon, QB, North Carolina State, 6’5”, 232 pounds
Glennon is also a player capable of being a franchise signal-caller. He can make all the throws and offers prototypical skills to be a franchise quarterback.
Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas, 6'2", 218 pounds
Wilson is a big armed quarterback out of the SEC. He has prototype quarterback size and possesses all the tools that teams look for out of their franchise quarterback. It seems like the Jaguars have to go quarterback early in this draft and it should be on of these three.
Kansas City Chiefs
16 of 32Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse, 6’2”, 228 pounds
If new head coach Andy Reid is looking for the most capable quarterback for his west coast offense, he needs to look no further than Nassib. He is capable of easily making all the short, quick throws that a quarterback needs to make in that system.
Tyler Wilson, QB, Arkansas, 6'2", 218 pounds
Wilson is the type of player the Chiefs could add later in round one or early in round two. He comes to the NFL with a good pedigree and is a capable quarterback.
Vince Williams, ILB, Florida State, 6'1", 250 pounds
Williams is a big, heavy handed inside linebacker out of Florida State. He is a downhill attacker and a player who brings great size, physicality and instincts to the position.
Miami Dolphins
17 of 32Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor, 6'2", 205 pounds
Williams has great body control and instincts to adjust to the ball in the air. He has good quickness and can separate down the field as well. Williams is the overall package and would be a great addition to the Dolphins offense.
John Jenkins, DT, Georgia, 6'3", 358 pounds
Jenkins is almost unblockable when he plays with good leverage. When he plays with his lower body engaged, he will be a powerful player who can hold up well at the point of attack.
Minnesota Vikings
18 of 32Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall, 6’2”, 206 pounds
Dobson is a vertical threat who could excel opposite Percy Harvin. He has incredibly soft, natural hands and is a player who would be a great "X" receiver in Minnesota.
Steve Beauharnais, LB, Rutgers, 6'1", 232 pounds
Beauharnais is a very aware linebacker who can run well. He has good hip agility and can turn and run with tight ends and running backs.
New England Patriots
19 of 32Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State, 6'3", 325 pounds
Williams is a violent interior lineman who uses his hands well and can impose his will on the competition. He plays a tough brand of football and would be a great addition to the Patriots defensive line, eventually assuming Vince Wilfork's role.
Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State, 5'10", 190 pounds
McFadden is an agile, aggressive cornerback who likes to keep the play in front of him. He can really close well because of his athletic ability and he has good ball skills. He is the perfect fit for the Patriots secondary.
New Orleans Saints
20 of 32Datone Jones, DE, UCLA, 6’4”, 275 pounds
Jones is an extremely powerful football player who can make an impact rushing the passer around the edge or through the gap. He can also hold the point of attack to play the run and is a player the Saints could really use on defense.
Ezekiel Ansah, DE, BYU, 6’5, 275 pounds
The Saints could line up Ansah all over the place and get a good amount of production from him as a pass rusher and a player who can defend the run. He is long and athletic.
New York Giants
21 of 32Alex Okafor, DE, Texas, 6'5", 265 pounds
Okafor is the perfect player for the Giants as he has an array of pass rushing skills and is physically ready to play today. He would be part of a ridiculously good rotation of defensive ends in New York.
Oday Aboushi, OT, Virginia, 6'6", 310 pounds
Aboushi is a player who could come in and play at either tackle position, but the preference would be for him to play on the right side of the offensive line for the Giants. He adds to the talent the Giants continue to put together.
New York Jets
22 of 32Stepfan Taylor, RB, Stanford, 5’11”, 215 pounds
Taylor is an intriguing player who fits the Jets offense perfectly. He can really handle himself in pass protection and can catch the ball out of the back field. He is a true three-down back.
Chris Harper, WR, Kansas Tech, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Harper is naturally instinctive route runner who catches everything thrown near him with soft hands. He would add a big body presence to the Jets aerial attack.
Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall, 6’2”, 206 pounds
Dobson is a true vertical threat and a player that the Jets could really use at this point in time. He would stretch the field and open up the offense.
Oakland Raiders
23 of 32Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State, 5'11", 190 pounds
Poyer is a solid overall cover corner who excels at getting out of his pedal and into a position to make a play in the ball. He has good awareness and is a naturally gifted cornerback.
Shawn Williams, S, Georgia, 6'1", 218 pounds
Williams is the perfect player to play on Oakland as he is tough, nasty and willing to come up from the safety position to deliver a blow. He isn't a liability in the back end either as he can run and does a good job in coverage.
Philadelphia Eagles
24 of 32Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan, 6’7”, 305 pounds
Fisher has the overall skills and elite footwork to come off the board very early in the 2013 NFL draft. He is big and has long arms and huge hands. He is a fiery competitor and he would be a nice addition to any offensive line.
Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International, 6'0", 210 pounds
Cyprien is a rangy safety who can center field and run sideline to sideline. He is strong in run defense and is pass defense, and would be a great addition to the Eagles secondary.
Pittsburgh Steelers
25 of 32Brandon Williams, DT, Missouri Southern State, 6'3", 325 pounds
Williams' physical play makes him an interesting prospect for the Steelers defense. His physical brand of football and ability to blow up holes at the point of attack would make him a great member of the Steelers.
Jamar Taylor, CB, Boise State, 5'11", 196 pounds
The Steelers need a play making cornerback on defense and Taylor fits the bill. He is a fast twitch athlete who can recover very well. He might bite on a fake, but he finds a way to get out of his pedal and back into the play.
Kenjon Barner, RB, Oregon, 5'11", 192 pounds
Barner is a very fast athlete running in a straight line. He lacks lateral agility but he can really move when asked to run north and south. Barner is a player who could be a nice change of pace for the Steelers and their power game.
San Diego Chargers
26 of 32Jordan Mills, OT, Louisiana Tech, 6'6", 322 pounds
Mills is going to play on the right side of the ball only, but he is a nasty, fiery tackle who doesn't mind mixing it up for his teammates. He plays a very aggressive style and does a good job in pass protection with his long arms and impressive punch. He is easily a player the Chargers could run the ball behind.
Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6'6", 302 pounds
Smooth, fluid and effortless. That's how Johnson looks at times when he kick slides to engage a pass rusher on the edge. He has an uncanny ability to redirect the rusher after the initial jolt of contact and naturally keep the defender away from the quarterback.
Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana, 6'0", 185 pounds
Alford has prototype NFL cornerback size with short legs which he uses to get out of his back pedal. NFL teams like their cornerbacks to be around six feet tall and the shorter legs allow the player to have significantly more change of direction ability.
Alford has great athleticism and smooth, fluid hips which allow him to turn and run with his man. Alford has shutdown corner abilities.
San Francisco 49ers
27 of 32Margus Hunt, DE, SMU, 6'7", 280
Hunt would be a solid addition to play defensive end in the 49ers 3-4 defense. He has super long arms and really good strength. He is a little raw and could use a little time to fully develop. This would be a steal for the 49ers as Hunt could be a special player a few years down the road.
Jonathan Franklin, RB, UCLA, 5'10", 198 pounds
Franklin runs with good lateral quickness and showcases a nice burst out of his cuts. He runs behind his pads with good power and is aggressive with his head up in pass protection. He uses his head and shoulders to fake a defender and is relatively explosive. He would eventually take over the job from Frank Gore and the combination of Franklin and LaMichael James would be a nice one.
Seattle Seahawks
28 of 32Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech, 6’2”, 200 pounds
Patton is smooth, fluid and explosive and he would be a great asset for the Seahawks receiving group. He would complete the offense a they have a bigger down the field threat in Sidney Rice and a small slot player in Golden Tate. Patton gives them another element entirely.
Margus Hunt, DE, SMU, 6'7", 280 pounds
Hunt would play on the edge for the Seattle defense and he could be very productive as a tall, long armed defensive end. He would work out of a rotation and get a chance to learn as he goes, which is the best situation for a player like Hunt.
Chris Harper, WR, Kansas Tech, 6’2”, 228 pounds
Harper is naturally big and athletic, and he is one of the better pass catchers in the entire draft. He turns to show a big target and he has long arms and big hands that he uses to softly haul in passes. The addition of Harper brings a unique element to the Seahawks passing game.
St. Louis Rams
29 of 32Lawrence Warford, G, Kentucky, 6'3", 343 pounds
Warford is a mauler. He is a massive football player who plays with great leverage and strength. He can redirect and hold up to any power moves thrown at him. He instantly would give the Rams an area at which to run the ball.
Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma, 6'6", 303 pounds
The Rams really need to find a franchise left tackle who can grow along with their young core of players. The have tried unsuccessfully to fill the need for a few years, and they might get a gift this year with Johnson in round one. He has all if the physical traits required for the job, he just needs a little bulk but he is capable of playing right away.
Aaron Dobson, WR, Marshall, 6'2", 206 pounds
The Rams need a big wide receiver who can vertically challenge the defense and that is exactly what Dobson is. He is unique in that he can separate over a short area and he can beat press coverage, and he can also run away from defenders down the field. He is a great red zone option also, and a player that the Rams could really use on offense.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
30 of 32Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State, 5'11", 190 pounds
Poyer is a fluid, instinctual cornerback who can really stay locked on his man's hip. He gets out of his pedal quickly and does a good job of being physical in coverage. The Buccaneers traded Aqib Talib during the 2012 season and they desperately need quality cornerback play.
Leon McFadden, CB, San Diego State, 5'10", 190 pounds
McFadden is another option for the Buccaneers as he has good closing ability and great route awareness. He will keep everything in front of him and in the NFC South, that's a very good thing. The addition of McFadden brings yet more young talent to the cornerback starved Buccaneers.
Jonathan Cyprien, S, Florida International, 6'0", 210 pounds
Cyprien is an underrated safety prospect who can do it all. He can cover ground and shows great range in coverage running sideline to sideline. He can stay with the tight ends running the seams and he has no problem stepping up to deliver a big hit defending the run. He and Mark Barron would make fantastic safety pairing.
Tennessee Titans
31 of 32Hugh Thornton, OG, Illinois, 6'4", 310 pounds.
Thornton holds up well a the point of attack as he sinks his hips and anchors well. He can deliver an accurate punch in the running game, and he can get to the second level to wall off defenders. Thornton would be a player that could add some grit and toughness to the interior of the Titans offensive line.
Vance McDonald, TE, Rice, 6'4", 262 pounds
McDonald does not have elite speed and is not Jimmy Graham or Rob Gronkowksi, but he does have a smooth quality about the way he runs routes down the seam. He has enough initial quickness that he can separate from the linebackers and safeties that are covering him, and he does have enough speed to be dangerous. His ability to adjust to the ball in the air and come down with the ball would be the biggest asset for the Titans.
Desmond Trufant, CB, Washington, 6'0", 186 pounds
Trufant has shutdown skills and is big and athletic enough to handle the bigger receivers he will see in the NFL. Trufant can click and close and always finds himself around the ball. He would be a really nice addition to the Titans defense.
Washington Redskins
32 of 32Robert Alford, CB, Southeastern Louisiana, 6'0", 185 pounds
Alford has great athleticism and smooth, fluid hips which allow him to turn and run with his man. Alford has shutdown corner abilities and those skills would be a welcome addition to the Redskins group of cornerbacks.
Jordan Poyer, CB, Oregon State, 5'11", 190 pounds
Poyer is an instinctual football player who shows good awareness and the natural feel for getting out of his pedal and into a position to break up the route. He always seems to be in a position to make a play on the ball.
Shawn Williams, S, Georgia, 6'1", 218 pounds
Williams is a tough, in the box safety who can come up and punish running backs at or near the line of scrimmage. He is a sound tackler and ans a player who does well in coverage as well. Williams would add toughness to the Redskins' secondary.
